What it does
Yahoo Finance MCP Server gives an agent Yahoo Finance market data through nine tools. Price history is requested with a chosen period and interval, and the general stock profile covers price, metrics and company details. Separate calls return dividends and splits, fresh news for a ticker, and analyst recommendations or upgrade and downgrade history. The server returns financial statements in three kinds: income statement, balance sheet and cash flow, annual or quarterly. The holders tool shows major and institutional holders, as well as insider transactions. For options there is a list of expiration dates and a call or put chain for a chosen date. The server starts with one command through uvx straight from the repository, with no separate install. It needs no API key or environment variables.
Who it is for. For analysts, amateur investors and developers who ask Claude, Cursor or another agent to review the statements and quotes of specific companies.
Good fit when
- You need the quarterly income statements of two companies side by side in a table
- You need six months of daily price history for a ticker to analyze a trend
- You need an extract from a balance sheet or cash flow statement, annual or quarterly
- You want to see insider transactions and changes in institutional ownership
- You need the call option chain for a chosen expiration date
Not a fit when
- You need real-time quotes from Russian exchanges: the server returns Yahoo Finance data
- You need brokerage operations, buying and selling: the server only reads data and does not trade
- You need a trading feed with guaranteed accuracy and latency: the server reads public data and gives no such guarantees
- You want ready investment advice: the server returns data and the conclusions are drawn by the agent and you

Limitations
- Needs Python 3.14.6 or newer, plus the uv manager to run from the repository. uv installs the dependencies itself, yfinance and pandas among them.
- The server only reads data; it has no trading or account operations.
- Data comes from Yahoo Finance through the yfinance library. It is unofficial and not affiliated with Yahoo, so the stability of results depends on its updates.
- For Docker the repository has a Dockerfile and smithery.yaml, but no instructions for building the container.
How to disable. Remove the yfinance entry from the MCP client configuration and restart the client. The server has no permanent install: `uvx` downloads it to a cache that `uv cache clean` can clear.
