Broad access
Why this level
- The `fhir` skill reads patient clinical data and notes from a hospital server, and the default scope covers every patient of the signed-in clinician
- Five servers are hosted by Anthropic, and the text of queries and documents goes to them over the network
- Coding and claim screening results affect payments and referrals, so an agent mistake costs money
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add plugins/claude-for-healthcareDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
The `healthcare` plugin for Claude Code bundles ten skills for healthcare and insurance work. Skills load only when a task touches them, so the bundle stays light on context. `icd10-cm` and `procedure-coding` pick diagnosis and procedure codes from a clinical note the way a professional coder builds a claim. `prior-auth` reviews payer prior authorization requests. `clinical-note-extract` pulls structured fields out of clinical notes and ties every value to a span of the source text. `fraud-detection` screens a Medicare and Medicaid claims corpus and prepares referrals for an investigations team. Seven MCP servers come with the skills. Five are hosted by Anthropic: CMS Coverage, ICD10 Codes, NPI Registry, Clinical Trials and PubMed. Two run on your machine as Node processes: FHIR and a contracts analyzer. The `fhir` skill connects to a hospital's FHIR R4 server (Epic, Oracle Health, MEDITECH, athenahealth or any SMART-on-FHIR endpoint), signs in through the browser and pulls a patient's notes and clinical data for analysis.
Who it is for. Analysts and developers at payers, hospitals and pharma companies who build Claude Code workflows around clinical notes, claims and trial protocols.
Good fit when
- Diagnoses and medications are extracted from a discharge summary or clinical note as fields, each pointing at a span of the text
- A payer team works through a queue of prior authorization requests
- An investigations unit screens Medicare and Medicaid claims for fraud, waste and abuse
- A developer builds FHIR endpoints and consults the `fhir-developer` skill
- A clinical trial protocol for a drug or a medical device is drafted with an agent
Not a fit when
- Organization policy forbids sending patient records to a cloud model
- You need a single narrow skill such as coding: the plugin brings all ten skills and seven servers at once
- You want a ready clinical decision for one patient: the plugin prepares material for a specialist and does not decide for the physician
- You work in an agent that does not support Claude Code plugins
Example request
Take the clinical note in note.txt, suggest ICD-10-CM codes with justification from the text and flag where the data is too thin for a codeLimitations
The license is given as a pointer to Anthropic's terms of service. The five hosted MCP servers belong to Anthropic, and requests to them leave your network. The other two run locally through Node, so Node has to be on PATH. The `fhir` skill asks for the `user/*.rs` scope by default: one login opens every patient the signed-in clinician can reach, while another scope binds a session to one patient. The version 1 plugins (`prior-auth-review`, `cms-coverage` and others) remain as deprecated aliases and will disappear in a future release. Codes, claim findings and note extractions stay drafts for a specialist.
How to disable. Remove the `healthcare` plugin from the `/plugin` menu and drop the `anthropics/healthcare` marketplace if you no longer need it. If the `fhir` skill wrote an `env` block with a server address into the project's `.mcp.json`, delete it separately. The SMART sign-in token is stored outside the plugin.
FAQ
How do I install Claude for Healthcare in Claude Code?
Add the marketplace with `/plugin marketplace add anthropics/healthcare` and install the plugin with `/plugin install healthcare@healthcare`. One package brings all the skills and servers.
Which skills are in the plugin?
Ten: `clinical-note-extract`, `clinical-trial-protocol`, `contracts`, `doc-extract`, `fhir`, `fhir-developer`, `fraud-detection`, `icd10-cm`, `prior-auth` and `procedure-coding`.
Do I configure the MCP servers by hand?
Not the five hosted ones: their addresses are already in the plugin's `.mcp.json`. The contracts analyzer and FHIR run locally and need Node on PATH, and FHIR also needs your hospital's server address.
How do I connect the fhir skill to a hospital server?
The skill calls `status` first, then `connect`: on a desktop a browser opens for SMART sign-in. Where there is no browser, the server returns a link and you paste back the address your browser lands on after sign-in. An open sandbox is available at `https://launch.smarthealthit.org/v/r4/fhir`.
What happens to the version 1 plugins?
Move to `healthcare@healthcare`. The old names work as deprecated aliases, but a future release removes them.

README in short
The repository front page opens with two install commands, then tables of skills and servers and a folder layout: the plugin, source for customer-private data servers and `agent.yaml` templates for the Managed Agents API. A separate section covers migration from version 1.
