What it does
FableCut is a dependency-free video editor in the browser controlled by an agent. The edit is described by a JSON timeline and it can be driven through an MCP server or REST. In Claude Code it installs as a plugin: `/plugin marketplace add ronak-create/FableCut` and `/plugin install fablecut@fablecut`; the MCP server connects with `claude mcp add -s user fablecut -- node "<path>/fablecut/mcp-server.js"`. Installation by cloning the repository is also possible. Version 1.11.0 from 05.10.2026, MIT license.
Who it is for. For content creators and developers who need video editing that an agent drives by description.
Good fit when
- You need an agent to edit video by a timeline
- You need an editor in the browser with no dependencies to install
- You need an MCP server and REST to drive editing
Not a fit when
- You need professional editing with color grading: the tool is simple
- You cannot open ports and run a local server
Example request
Assemble a 30-second video from these three clips with titles and music through the FableCut timelineLimitations
The editor runs locally and the agent gets control of the project and video files, so access is extended: give it a working folder. The timeline and footage live in the plugin's data. The README contains an advertisement for a third-party model service which is unrelated to the tool.
How to disable. Remove the skill from the agent's folder or the plugin through the plugin manager.
