What it does
OpenBSP plugin connects Claude Code to messaging workspace data. An agent can query contacts, conversations and templates, with a separate reply tool when WhatsApp is connected. The user selects an organization and account. Inbound messages are forwarded only from allowed contacts. Channel settings are separate from API access: disabling the channel leaves API permissions intact. Configuration changes require a direct user request in the terminal.
Who it is for. For teams using authorized OpenBSP data from Claude Code and connecting selected conversations.
Good fit when
- Find a contact or conversation in an owned workspace.
- Allow selected contacts to message the agent.
- Choose an organization explicitly when several are available.
- Inspect login and account state when a channel fails.
Not a fit when
- The model must not access conversation contents.
- You need an unrestricted channel without an allowlist.
- An external sender should be able to change plugin settings.

Access requires an OpenBSP account signed in through Google; installing the plugin does not create one. The contact allowlist controls channel forwarding, not API permissions, which follow the signed-in account. Conversation content must not change plugin configuration, since external text could affect access. Conversations and customer details enter Claude Code context; select an authorized organization and agree model use with the data owner first.
How to disable. Disable the plugin and channel forwarding, then revoke unneeded access. Sent messages remain with recipients and in platform history.
FAQ
What does an empty contact list do?
It blocks inbound channel messages until contacts are explicitly allowed.
Can it work without a WhatsApp number?
Yes. Query-based API access remains available, while WhatsApp replies and channel delivery are disabled.
Which tools can the agent use?
Platform data queries, login and WhatsApp replies, subject to configuration and permissions.
Where is local configuration stored?
In `~/.claude/channels/openbsp/config.json`, separately from login state.
Is a restart required after login?
No. The login tool returns user, organization and channel state without a mandatory restart.
