MAX plugin for OpenClaw
openclaw-max
A channel plugin that connects the OpenClaw AI assistant to the MAX messenger: text, attachments, buttons, pinning and webhooks
Medium risk
We rate an entry medium when the tool runs code, makes network calls or reads project files. Check what exactly it does before installing.
Why this level
- The bot sends messages on the organization's behalf in MAX
- The webhook accepts external requests and needs a secret to verify authenticity
Install
Manual install
cp -r openclaw-max ~/.openclaw/extensions/openclaw-maxCopy the plugin into the OpenClaw extensions folder, then load the plugin and set the bot token inside OpenClaw.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The plugin gives the OpenClaw bot a channel in the MAX messenger (formerly VK Teams and ICQ New), set up the same way as the Telegram channel. It supports receiving and sending text in MAX's markdown dialect, attachments (photos, video, audio, files, stickers, contacts, geolocation), several inline button types, message pinning, long polling with a persistent marker, and a webhook with a required secret. It separately handles a TLS issue: since July 2026 the MAX API runs on a certificate issued by Russia's Ministry of Digital Development, which is missing from Node.js's default trust store, and the plugin adds the needed root certificates only for its own connections, without touching the process-wide trust store.
Who it is for. For people already running OpenClaw who want to add the MAX messenger as another channel for their bot.
Good fit when
- You want the OpenClaw bot to answer users in MAX the same way it does in Telegram
- You need buttons, attachments and message pinning in the MAX bot conversation
- You need a webhook with a fast ACK instead of long polling
Not a fit when
- You are not running OpenClaw: the plugin only works inside that platform, not as a standalone MCP server
- You have no registered business: creating a bot in MAX via business.max.ru requires organization verification
Example request
Set up the MAX channel for my OpenClaw bot and enable receiving messages via webhookLimitations
Works only as an OpenClaw extension and does not fit other agents without porting the code. Creating a bot requires a registered business, an organization profile in MAX, and moderation that can take up to 48 business hours. Maximum 32 slash commands versus 100 in Telegram. The plugin is young, with three GitHub stars at review time.
How to disable. Remove the plugin folder from ~/.openclaw/extensions/openclaw-max and remove the channel from your OpenClaw settings.
Security check
- The bot sends messages on the organization's behalf in MAX
- The webhook accepts external requests and needs a secret to verify authenticity
README in short
The Russian README lists the plugin's capabilities, explains the TLS fix in a dedicated section, and gives step-by-step setup: creating a bot at business.max.ru with a wait for moderation, copying the plugin into extensions and loading it. It shows the project structure with api.ts, monitor.ts, webhook.ts, channel.ts and the russian-trusted-ca.ts certificate module.
FAQ
Do I need a registered business to create a bot?
Yes, business.max.ru requires an organization profile and verification; an individual account will not work.
How does it handle the Ministry of Digital Development certificate?
The plugin adds the Russian Trusted Root and Sub CA certificates only to its own HTTP client, without changing the process-wide trust store.
