Broad access
Why this level
- Through the CLI and MCP the agent creates services and databases, changes environment variables and domains and starts deploys in your Railway account
- The analysis scripts connect to Postgres, MySQL, Redis and MongoDB databases and read their data
- The plugin package includes the auto-approve-api.sh hook, so check which requests it approves without asking you
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add plugins/railway-skillsDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
Railway Skills is the official Railway repository with an agent plugin. It holds one skill, use-railway, and a connection to the hosted Railway MCP server at mcp.railway.com. The skill routes each request and picks the tool itself: the railway CLI for jobs that need the local project folder (railway up, railway run, SSH), the hosted MCP with OAuth sign-in for browsing projects, services, deployments, bounded logs and traces, and GraphQL through railway api for everything else. The skill covers sign-up and sign-in, creating projects, services, databases and buckets, deploys, infrastructure as code, environments and variables, domains, OpenTelemetry tracing, build failure triage, metrics and feature flags. Details live in the references folder, and Python scripts analyze Postgres, MySQL, Redis and MongoDB databases. The plugin is packaged for Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex, Cursor, Grok Build and Google Antigravity.
Who it is for. For developers and DevOps engineers who host apps on Railway and want to run deploys and diagnostics from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex.
Good fit when
- You want to ship the code in the current folder with railway up without remembering flags
- A build failed and the agent has to read the deploy logs and find the cause
- You need a project with a service and a Postgres database and its environment variables set up
- You want to turn on OpenTelemetry tracing and look at request traces
- You need to examine a slow database: the skill ships analysis scripts for Postgres, MySQL, Redis and MongoDB
Not a fit when
- Your project is not hosted on Railway: the skill works with that platform only
- You need a one-off deploy without an agent: the railway up command or the dashboard is enough
- The agent runs in the Railway Agent window in the dashboard or the mobile chat: the CLI is unauthenticated there by design, and the skill switches to MCP tools
- You need an operation that neither MCP nor the CLI covers: the agent then asks you to make the change in the dashboard
Example request
Deploy the current project to Railway and if the build fails read the logs and tell me what brokeLimitations
A Railway account is required. The hosted MCP signs in with OAuth and does not need a local CLI, while CLI scenarios (railway up, railway run, SSH, database analysis scripts) do. The railway api command arrived in CLI 5.28, and older versions fall back on the railway-api.sh script.
The plugin reaches the official Claude Code marketplace with a delay: the version there is pinned to a specific commit, and new changes from the repository show up after that entry is updated.
How to disable. In Claude Code remove the plugin from the /plugin menu and reload plugins with /reload-plugins. In Cursor, Codex and Antigravity turn the plugin off in the plugins section of settings. The CLI stays on the machine until you remove it separately.
FAQ
How do I install Railway in Claude Code?
Run /plugin install railway@claude-plugins-official and /reload-plugins. If Claude Code cannot find the plugin, refresh the marketplace with /plugin marketplace update claude-plugins-official. The version from this repository installs with /plugin marketplace add railwayapp/railway-skills and /plugin install railway@railway-skills.
How do I set up Railway for an agent with one command?
Run curl -fsSL agents.railway.com | sh. It installs the CLI and skills, configures the Railway MCP server for the tools it finds and checks sign-in. If the CLI is already installed, use railway setup agent.
Do I need the local CLI to connect Railway to Claude?
No. The Railway connector for Claude uses the hosted MCP server and OAuth sign-in, so it does not need the CLI. For terminal workflows with the skill and hooks you install the Claude Code plugin.
How is the use-railway skill different from the Railway CLI?
The CLI runs commands, while the skill teaches the agent which path to choose, the CLI, the hosted MCP or GraphQL through railway api, and how to build the request. The CLI entry describes the command that installs this skill together with the MCP server.
What does the use-railway skill do with databases?
The scripts folder holds Python scripts analyze-postgres, analyze-mysql, analyze-redis and analyze-mongo, and references has a separate guide for each database. Postgres also gets enable-pg-stats and pg-extensions scripts.

README in short
The description opens with the quick agent setup command and an install section for each environment: ChatGPT and Codex, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Grok Build and Google Antigravity. For each environment it lists the plugin manifest and the repository marketplace. It closes by saying the repository ships a single installable skill, use-railway, whose behavior is built on intent routing with a reference for each task.
