What it does
The skill teaches an agent to check an iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS or visionOS app against Apple's review rules. It supports Swift and Objective-C projects as well as React Native and Expo. The check follows the official App Store Review Guidelines as updated on October 16, 2026. The rules are split into five files: safety, performance, business, design and legal. The agent loads only the section it needs. The main `SKILL.md` holds a quick reference for common rejection causes and a pre-submission checklist. Each file has code patterns to flag, and for React Native and Expo also matching packages such as `expo-tracking-transparency`, `expo-secure-store` and `react-native-purchases`. Findings fall into three groups. Critical ones cover private APIs, hardcoded secrets, external payment for digital goods where in-app purchase is required, on-device mining and hidden features. High priority goes to missing App Tracking Transparency, account creation without deletion and purchases without restore. Medium covers vague permission strings and unneeded background modes.
Who it is for. Mobile developers and small studios on Swift, React Native or Expo who are preparing an App Store release and do not want a rejection over a missed guideline.
Good fit when
- A first App Store submission is close and you want a list of code spots a reviewer may reject
- You wire in StoreKit or external payment and want to check the setup against the in-app purchase rules
- A children's app needs its parental gates, analytics and data collection checked
- User content or AI generation calls for moderation with reports and blocking
- A React Native or Expo project has questionable permissions, background modes and tracking packages
Not a fit when
- Distribution happens outside the App Store: the skill knows only Apple's rules
- You want an approval guarantee: the author takes reports of false positives and missed findings
- You need to build and upload to App Store Connect: separate tools do that, and the skill only reads code
- The project is Kotlin or Flutter with no iOS part
Example request
Review this app against App Store guidelines and show what could cause a rejection: purchases, permissions, data collectionLimitations
The skill rests on the guidelines as updated on October 16, 2026, and later Apple changes appear only after the author updates it. The check is static: it reads code and metadata but does not run the app or see finished screens and screenshots. The agent can miss a rule or raise a false alarm, and the final decision belongs to an Apple reviewer. Installing through the skills CLI collects anonymous statistics, and `SKILLS_NO_TELEMETRY=1` turns that off. The skill itself keeps no telemetry and makes no network calls. When the skill fails you, the agent asks whether to draft a report to the repository tracker through `gh`, and sends it only after your consent and a look at the text.
How to disable. Remove the `app-store-review` plugin from the `/plugin` menu in Claude Code or from the Codex plugin list. For a skills CLI install, delete the `app-store-review` skill folder from the agent's skills directory.
FAQ
How do I install the App Store review skill in Claude Code?
Run `/plugin marketplace add safaiyeh/app-store-review-skill` and `/plugin install app-store-review@app-store-review`. Another route is `npx skills add safaiyeh/app-store-review-skill`.
How do I run the review in Codex?
Add the marketplace with `codex plugin marketplace add safaiyeh/app-store-review-skill`, open `/plugins` and install the `app-store-review` plugin. In a new thread call the skill as `$app-store-review` or ask for a guideline compliance check.
Which Apple platforms and frameworks does it cover?
App code for iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS and visionOS in Swift and Objective-C, plus React Native and Expo projects, with matching packages listed for the last two.
Which guideline sections does the check include?
All five: safety, performance, business with purchases, design and legal, including privacy and gambling. Each sits in its own file in the `rules/` folder.
Does the skill send data to the author?
No. The skill keeps no telemetry and makes no network calls. Only the skills CLI installer collects anonymous statistics, and `SKILLS_NO_TELEMETRY=1` turns that off.

README in short
The page opens with installs for Codex, Claude Code and the skills CLI, then shows example prompts and the repository tree. Most of the text lists the covered rule sections and the critical, high and medium findings, and the end says when the skill triggers.
