What it does

Codex Taskboard runs a local service with a React web UI and SQLite storage that holds projects, issues, relations between them, and comments. The same HTTP API backs the taskctl CLI, which can create projects and tasks from the terminal. It ships with the manage-taskboard skill, which teaches an agent not just to call commands but to follow a process: read the issue and comments first, explicitly claim the task, do only the requested work, report back and move the issue to review, and move it to done only after explicit human confirmation. The board can be embedded directly into a Codex window through a dedicated CDP port or an injection script, and cloud mode uses a local companion that proxies Codex, Git, Skill, and MCP.

Who it is for. For developers who track project tasks right next to Codex or Claude Code and want the agent to move issue statuses on its own under clear rules.

Limitations

The board is a separate service that must be built and run locally, and macOS or Windows builds need Xcode Command Line Tools, Rust, or Visual Studio Build Tools. Cloud mode requires setting up the local companion with rights to proxy Codex, Git, and MCP.

How to disable. Stop the local service (npm start) and remove the symlink or the skills/manage-taskboard folder from the agent's skills directory.
