gost-skills: GOST document formatting skill
gost-skills
An agent skill that assembles or reviews a document per GOST standards and lists every issue with a reference to the exact clause
Low risk
We rate an entry low when it mostly gives the agent instructions and reference material.
Why this level
- Works only with the user's local documents and sends nothing anywhere
- The mechanical check script only reads the docx and never modifies it
Install
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add skills/gost-skillsDetects the agents on your machine, checks the risk and pins the version.
Other ways to install
Run in a terminal in the project folder

Clone https://github.com/cyclomethane/gost-skills and copy skills/gost into the project's .agents/skills/gost (or ~/.agents/skills/gost for a global install), then ask to format or audit a document per GOST.
Other ways from the author
git clone https://github.com/cyclomethane/gost-skills.git && mkdir -p .agents/skills && cp -r gost-skills/skills/gost .agents/skills/gostSingle-project install, the command from the README.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The skill determines the document type itself and loads the matching module: dissertation and avtoreferat under GOST R 7.0.11, thesis and diploma projects, a research report under GOST 7.32, a journal article under GOST R 7.0.7, an abstract under GOST R 7.0.99, official business documents under GOST R 7.0.97, ESKD text documents, bibliography across three standards, units of measurement under GOST 8.417, and a defense presentation. Two shared files, layout-core.md and mandatory-core.md, describe page layout and the mandatory composition, with three layout profiles reconciling different GOST standards into one table. For a short request the skill gives a plain-language list of issues; for an explicit audit request it produces a full six-section report with PASS, FAIL, N/A and NEEDS_SOURCE_CHECK statuses and clause references. For an assembled docx, the gost_acceptance.py script can run a mechanical layout check with profile A or B.
Who it is for. For students, graduate researchers and advisors preparing dissertations, theses, articles and reports under Russian GOST standards who want a formatting check before formal review.
Good fit when
- You need to format a dissertation, thesis, article, research report or official document per a current GOST standard
- You need an audit of a finished docx with exact clause references
- You need a check of the bibliography, measurement units or the mandatory document composition
Not a fit when
- Your institution's requirements diverge from GOST and are not recorded as a verified source: the skill never declares a point mandatory without one
- The document falls outside the covered GOST standards, for example a dissertation published as a monograph
- You need a review of the scholarly content rather than formatting
Example request
Review dissertation.docx against GOST and give me the full report with clause numbersLimitations
The modules are described as a normalized working interpretation of the standards as of the date in each file header, not the official GOST text. Institution, department or council requirements always outrank the skill, which only applies where no local source exists. The mechanical layout check script works only on docx files and only for two layout profiles. For a document type without a ready module the skill invents nothing: an unverified point is flagged NEEDS_SOURCE_CHECK rather than declared a violation.
How to disable. Delete the skills/gost folder from .agents/skills in your project, or from ~/.agents/skills for a global install.
Security check
- Works only with the user's local documents and sends nothing anywhere
- The mechanical check script only reads the docx and never modifies it
README in short
The README describes a single skill for agents that read .agents/skills, covering dissertations, theses, research reports, journal articles, abstracts, official documents, ESKD text documents, bibliography and measurement units under specific GOST standards. Setup is cloning the repository and copying the skills/gost folder into a project or globally. It states a requirement priority: institution and department outrank GOST, GOST outranks the skill's own interpretation, and an unverified requirement is never declared mandatory. MIT license.
SKILL.md
--- name: gost description: Formats a document to ГОСТ (Russian state standard) from scratch, or reviews a finished one and reports every violation with a reference to the standard's clause — missing mandatory sections, volume out of range, and all visual layout errors. Covers dissertation and avtoreferat, thesis (ВКР) and diploma, research report, term paper, internship report, journal article, abstract and annotation, official/business document, defense presentation, bibliography, units of measurement. Saves weeks of revisions and guards against the work being sent back for rework. --- # GOST documents: router and shared layer One skill for all ГОСТ-governed documents. It determines the document type itself, loads the matching module, and keeps every shared rule in exactly two core files, so a module never repeats a rule it did not change: - references/layout-core.md — visual layout: page, text, headings, pagination, TOC, captions, tables, figures, formulas, lists, appendices, package metadata. - references/mandatory-core.md — mandatory elements and volume: which structural elements each document type must have, what goes on the title page, volume norms. Two modes: assemble a new document to the standard, or accept a finished one with an audit report in which every remark carries a clause reference.
FAQ
How is a short answer different from a full audit?
For a general request the skill lists issues in plain language without clause numbers; the full six-section report with statuses and references appears only for an explicit audit request or after running gost_acceptance.py.
What if my document type has no ready module?
The skill uses an extension protocol: it asks the user for the source of requirements and creates a new module with deltas to the shared files, flagging unverified points as NEEDS_SOURCE_CHECK.
