What it does
The tool injects a theme into the Codex Desktop window at runtime through the local Chrome DevTools protocol on 127.0.0.1:9341. app.asar, application binaries and signatures stay untouched, while the sidebar, suggestion cards and the composer work as usual. A theme menu appears at the top of the window, switching is instant, and light and dark schemes follow on their own. The set has 13 built-in themes: Miku, two lightweight themes each for Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, Naruto and Love and Deepspace, two Dragon Ball themes, the light Caishen Readable and a hidden surprise theme. Any PNG, JPG, JPEG or WebP image becomes a theme with a palette and a backdrop. There is an interface transparency slider and a switch for response readability. The repository also holds a .skill package: hand it to Codex and it creates an image and builds a theme from it. You can additionally install the animated Miku Future pet. The same mechanisms work for Tencent's WorkBuddy.
Who it is for. For Codex Desktop users who want their own background and palette, and for people who build themes from images.
Good fit when
- You want to replace the stock Codex Desktop look with your own image and palette
- You need a theme that follows the system's light and dark scheme
- You want to have Codex generate a backdrop and build a theme from it using the .skill package
- Readability matters to you: the 0 to 100 transparency slider keeps the mask at 60 percent opacity or more
- You also use WorkBuddy: the same engine reskins it for the length of a session
Not a fit when
- You use Codex in a terminal or an editor extension: the theme is built for the desktop app
- You cannot open a local debugging port: Codex is relaunched with CDP enabled
- The computer runs Windows with Microsoft Store or MSIX: the author notes this setup still awaits live validation
- You need rights to character images for publishing: the MIT license covers code only and grants no rights to characters or brands
Example request
Generate a cyberpunk image and build a Codex Desktop theme from it with the Skin Studio skillLimitations
- Codex Desktop and Node.js 22 or newer are required. Applying a theme quits Codex and relaunches it with a local debugging port, so save your work.
- The CDP port on 127.0.0.1 has no password: local processes of the same user sit inside the trust boundary.
- Future Codex updates may change launch arguments or markup and require theme fixes. A DOM compatibility canary exists for checking.
- macOS has live-machine verification, while Windows is covered by PowerShell automation.
- The macOS installer creates HeiGe 皮肤启动器.app in ~/Applications. The MIT license applies to code only.
How to disable. Run scripts/restore.command to return Codex to its stock look. disable-persist.command switches off persistent launch. Delete the HeiGe 皮肤启动器.app launcher from ~/Applications by hand.
FAQ
How do I install HeiGe Codex Skin Studio on a Mac?
Download the repository and open scripts/install.command. The installer creates the HeiGe 皮肤启动器.app launcher in ~/Applications. After a reboot or a Codex update, a click on the launcher restores the latest theme.
Does the tool change Codex files?
No. The theme is injected at runtime through CDP on 127.0.0.1:9341, while app.asar, binaries and signatures stay as they were.
How do I make my own theme from an image?
Upload a PNG, JPG, JPEG or WebP image through the menu item and the colors and scheme are picked automatically. The second way is to run customize.command. The third is to hand the .skill package to Codex and ask it to generate an image and build a theme.
Which game and anime themes are in the set?
Miku, two themes each for Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, Naruto and Love and Deepspace, two Dragon Ball themes, the light Caishen Readable and one hidden. The MIT license does not grant rights to characters or brands.
How do I get the normal Codex look back?
Pick the native interface in the top menu or run scripts/restore.command. Persistent launch is enabled only by a switch in the menu and is off by default.

README in short
The English README opens with updates: the macOS launcher and WorkBuddy support. Then come what it is, a quick start for macOS and Windows, making your own theme in three ways and a separate chapter on WorkBuddy. The Honest notes section lists limitations: the open CDP port, live verification only on macOS and dependence on Codex markup. It ends with the MIT license for code and ASSET_PROVENANCE.md with the provenance of assets.
