What it does

Infinite OS is a container that works as a hosting environment for one project: a web server, PHP, Node.js, Bun, Python, Ruby and Java runtimes, databases, cron and a control panel. The `os-usage` skill in `SKILL.md` describes how an agent manages such a container through the dashboard, the `os` CLI and the REST API. The agent works out where it runs, starts the container if needed, installs catalog applications (`os mktplace install -s wp`), deploys PHP, Laravel, Node.js, Python, Django and static sites, and creates virtual hosts, databases and TLS certificates.

Who it is for. Developers and vibe coders: a project must go quickly onto their own Docker or Podman hosting without separate nginx and database setup.

Good fit when

  • The agent deploys WordPress from the catalog with one `os mktplace install` command.
  • A Laravel, Django or Node.js project must be published with a database and a domain.
  • A static site built with `npm run build` must serve its files under your host.
  • Cron jobs, virtual hosts and certificates are configured from the terminal rather than the dashboard.

Not a fit when

  • You need a multi-server cluster: Infinite OS manages one environment, and separate projects get separate containers.
  • The container will be thrown away after each run: it holds all the site's state.
  • A public production server: the README recommends deploying through a PaaS such as Infinite Ez.

Example request

Deploy WordPress in my Infinite OS container for the `myapp.net` domain and show which services and mappings were created.

Limitations

The skill is built for an Infinite OS instance and does not fit other hosting. The `os` CLI needs no authentication and runs as root, so the agent gets full control of the container: it installs services, edits files and creates databases. The skill tells the agent not to install a container runtime itself and to ask the user instead. Examples contain test passwords such as `abc123!`; replace them before publishing. The first login creates the administrator, and the dashboard on port `1618` is best bound to `127.0.0.1`.

How to disable. Remove `SKILL.md` from the agent's skills and stop the container with `docker stop`, deleting it if needed. Site data lives in the container filesystem and disappears with it.

FAQ

How can the agent tell it is inside the container?

It runs `os version`: if the command answers, this is an Infinite OS container, including the built-in web terminal. From outside, commands are prefixed with `docker exec <container>`.

How do I start Infinite OS itself?

With `docker run -d --name 'myapp.net' --env 'PRIMARY_VHOST=myapp.net' -p 8080:80 -p 8443:443 -p 1618:1618 docker.io/goinfinite/os:latest`. Only port `1618` is required; it serves the dashboard and API.

Where do I get the catalog application list?

`os mktplace list-catalog` shows the slug, id and data fields. The `-s wp` filter keeps only WordPress.

Which runtimes are supported?

PHP, Node.js, Bun, Python, Ruby and Java. The app listens on the runtime port: 3000 for Node, Bun and Ruby, 8000 for Python, 8080 for Java.

How do I remove an installed application?

Run `os mktplace delete -i <installedId>`. `os mktplace list` shows the id.

README in short

Infinite OS is built as a hosting container on a single Go binary and a light Debian base, about 80 MB of memory. A separate README section covers coding agents working in the built-in web terminal.
