What it does

JobAppAgent installs as a skill together with a CLI that keeps the candidate profile, one verified résumé file and a log of applications. The agent searches roles in the browser across a catalog of sources, matches each one against the résumé, checks authorization, location, seniority and duplicates, then fills the form on Greenhouse, Ashby or Lever. The agent only fills the form. You confirm the send: applications are staged as a batch, and a local page shows the company, role, link, fit score, every answer and the résumé. Approval covers the items you saw, once, for 24 hours. In `routine-auto` mode a batch holds up to 25 routine applications; `review-each`, the default, handles one at a time. Only a submission the agent saw on a confirmation screen goes into the log; a filled form does not count as applied. The profile sits in the operating system's credential store, and passwords, SSO, MFA, CAPTCHA and legal attestations are handed back to the person. An optional companion drafts messages to recruiters and tracks replies, but you send them yourself.

Who it is for. Job seekers who apply to dozens of positions at foreign companies and want an agent to take over the routine while they keep the final say before every send.

Good fit when

  • You are hunting for a role at a tech company and want the agent to sweep several job sources instead of searching by hand
  • Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever forms keep repeating, and answers to routine questions can come from your résumé
  • You want a log that shows where you really applied and where a form was left half filled
  • The agent should build a daily batch of applications while you only review and approve it
  • You search from several machines and want shared profile and application state in a private cloud store

Not a fit when

  • You need to apply through hh.ru, SuperJob or other Russian boards: the source catalog is built around Western hiring systems
  • You want unattended mass mailing: the agent stops and waits for your approval before every send
  • You have no verified résumé, or you expect the agent to invent experience: the skill refuses unverifiable claims
  • The form needs a CAPTCHA, corporate SSO login or demographic questions: the agent hands those steps to you

Example request

Use job-application-agent to find 10 matching remote Senior Backend Engineer roles and prepare a batch of applications for my approval

Limitations

Requires Node.js 20 or newer and an agent with browser access. On Linux the profile is stored through `secret-tool`, so a keyring such as GNOME Keyring must be running; on headless servers it is started by hand. Anonymous usage analytics and sharing of public job links are on by default and are turned off with `telemetry disable` and `sources sharing disable`. The CLI will not record a submission without an approval token, but it cannot stop a click on the submit button made directly in the browser; only the skill itself forbids that. The author's hosted cloud mode is not live yet.

How to disable. Delete the `~/.agents/skills/job-application-agent` folder and any copies in agent skill directories the installer created. The profile and logs live outside the skill folder, in the system credential store and the state directory, and are removed separately. Automatic updates are switched off with `updates disable`.

FAQ

How do I install JobAppAgent in Claude Code?

Run `npx job-application-agent@latest install`: the installer places the skill in `~/.agents/skills/job-application-agent` and links it into the Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and Gemini folders that exist. Then tell the agent to import your résumé and preferences.

Does the agent submit applications by itself?

No, in the default mode every application waits for your approval. After you confirm on the review page the agent sends exactly the items you saw, and the log entry appears only after a success screen.

Where are my résumé and profile stored?

The profile lives in Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows and Secret Service on Linux. The résumé and logs sit in an owner-only state directory. The skill never reads browser cookies or session files.

What leaves my machine without my knowledge?

Anonymous usage statistics and public links to confirmed jobs go to the author by default, with no name, email or résumé text. A saved name and email for support sit in a separate private store. All three channels are switched off with commands from the help.

How do review-each and routine-auto differ?

In `review-each` a batch holds one application, so you read each one. In `routine-auto` the agent groups up to 25 routine applications into one batch, and non-routine steps still stop the run and wait for you.
