What it does
mcd-nutrition-expert is a skill with a local FastAPI web app for people who track their diet and eat at McDonald's China. From height, weight, age and goal it calculates daily expenditure and macro targets, then sorts 156 menu items into four groups by nutrient density and sodium load (the SP matrix). From that matrix the skill builds three meal sets for one sitting and states the trade-offs, such as sodium. Through McDonald's official MCP server it lists nearby restaurants, menus and coupons and places the order. Nutrition logs are kept in a local SQLite database.
Who it is for. People cutting or bulking in China who often eat at McDonald's and want to stay within calories and sodium.
Good fit when
- Lunch can only be McDonald's and the daily calorie limit is nearly used.
- After training, a high-protein meal is wanted without excess sodium.
- Before ordering in the app, three options should be compared with the downside of each shown.
- A food log and weight trend are wanted.
Not a fit when
- The restaurants are outside mainland China: the McDonald's server works with the Chinese menu.
- A doctor prescribed a diet with exact accounting, and approximate calculations will not do.
- An MCP token for the McDonald's server cannot be obtained.

Python 3.10 or newer and a token for McDonald's official MCP server are required, stored in `.env` as `MCD_MCP_TOKEN`. Documentation and interface are in Chinese, and the menu and coupons belong to McDonald's China. The calculations are approximate and do not replace a doctor or dietitian. The order goes to the real service, so check the basket and price before submitting. The app starts with `python scripts/server.py` and listens on local port 8899.
How to disable. Remove the skill folder from the agent's skills directory and stop `scripts/server.py`. Delete the token in `.env` and the SQLite food log separately.
FAQ
Where does the menu data come from?
From McDonald's official MCP server, which needs your token. The README lists 35 server tools and 160 items with nutrition data.
How do I start the web interface?
Run `python scripts/server.py` from the skill folder and open `http://127.0.0.1:8899`. First install `fastapi` and `uvicorn` and set the token in `.env`.
Can the skill be used in chat without the web app?
Yes. It plugs into an agent, which runs the same calculations from phrases such as asking how to eat at McDonald's. Ordering and coupons need the token.
What does the SP matrix show?
Each item is plotted by protein and carbohydrate density against sodium per 100 kcal, and your target is marked with a gold cross.
Is a token required?
Yes. Set the official McDonald's MCP server token in `.env` as `MCD_MCP_TOKEN`. It is needed for the menu, coupons and ordering.
