What it does
The skill handles social science papers in nine modes: topic diagnosis, research question refinement, outlining, literature review planning, source search with a Zotero handoff, draft review, section revision, citation checking and a pre-submission check. Each mode loads its own reference rubric: literature review, research design, data collection and analysis, citation safety. The agent does not invent literature, data, page numbers or DOIs and asks for missing information. Weak spots get `Evidence Gap`, `Citation Risk`, `Quotation Risk` and `Causal Overclaim` labels. Sources are graded by how far they were read: metadata only, abstract only, full text, imported to Zotero.
Who it is for. Students and researchers in sociology, political science and economics writing a term paper, thesis or journal article who worry about weak references and overstated causal claims.
Good fit when
- The topic is still a broad area and has to become a question that data can answer.
- The literature review reads as a list of authors and needs grouping by debates and mechanisms.
- Before a journal submission a list of blocking problems and a submit-or-revise verdict is needed.
- A section is full of causal wording and it is worth finding where it goes beyond the research design.
Not a fit when
- Creative writing or non-academic editing is on the table, which the skill's author rules out.
- A finished paper without the author's involvement is expected: the skill flags risks and invents no sources.
- The work belongs to natural or engineering sciences: the rubrics are written for social science.
Example request
Diagnose the topic of short-video influence on student political participation: problem focus, subject, feasibility, evidence risks and three narrower variants.Limitations
The README and examples are in Chinese. Norms come from a course and are marked `[course norm]`, while general advice is labeled separately. The repository states no license, so reuse terms are unclear. CNKI and Google Scholar search and the Zotero handoff work only when the agent has matching tools. The skill does not replace an advisor and does not guarantee acceptance. The latest commit in the repository dates from June 2026.
How to disable. Delete the `~/.agents/skills/social-science-paper-writing` folder. Records already imported into Zotero stay in the library and are removed by hand.
FAQ
Which modes exist and how to choose?
Nine, from `topic_diagnosis` to `pre_submission_check`. The agent picks a mode from the task wording, or name it in the request, for example `draft_review` for a draft.
Does the skill invent sources?
No. Fabricating literature, data, page numbers, DOIs and samples is explicitly banned, and the agent asks when information is missing.
What do the risk labels mean?
`Evidence Gap` is a claim without evidence, `Citation Risk` an unverifiable reference, `Quotation Risk` a quote without a page, `Causal Overclaim` causal wording stronger than the design.
Is Zotero required?
Only for the literature search mode. The other modes work on text the user pastes into the conversation.
Does the skill suit Claude Code?
The author describes it for Codex and ChatGPT. The `SKILL.md` format is shared, but other agents are not claimed as tested.

README in short
The skill is built around the question, evidence, method, structure and citation safety rather than style polish. Each mode comes with sample prompts and report templates.
