Why this level
- Linking to a broker connector can place real orders, and a mistake costs money
- Broker keys live in environment variables: if they leak, someone else gets access to the account
- A simulation on historical data from external sites guarantees nothing, and a trade based on its estimate can end in a loss

What it does
Day Trader skill is a set of eleven skills for Claude that carry one trade from search to close. The chart scanner looks across the US market for opening-range breakouts, flags and oversold bounces. The news monitor follows headlines and filings for chosen stocks, the entry timer watches a setup bar by bar and the exit planner sets a stop and a target in advance. The `/trader-timemachine` command replays the rest of the session 10,000 times from the stock's own candles and separately tests the rule on past days when the setup fired. The budget manager sizes a position to your maximum loss and the risk manager passes or blocks an order. The order executor shows a ticket, waits for your yes on every order and works through a broker connector, with an Alpaca paper account by default. The remaining skills set alerts, read company earnings reports and read the stock-trade disclosures of US Congress members. The tools are plain Python with no dependencies and read public data: Yahoo Finance charts, Nasdaq Trader lists, SEC EDGAR and the House Clerk site.
Who it is for. For retail traders on the US market who want to run a day trade through Claude Code with hard loss limits.
Good fit when
- In the morning you want to scan thousands of charts for opening-range breakouts
- You need a stop, a target and a position size for a maximum dollar loss worked out in advance
- You want to test a setup on the last 60 days of five-minute candles before entering
- You need a digest of news and SEC filings for a watchlist
- You want alerts on the stop, the target and a flat-by-the-close deadline
Not a fit when
- You need the Russian market: the data covers the US only, and the catalog has MOEX MCP Server for the Moscow Exchange
- You are building a long-term portfolio: 13F copying, tax lots and rebalancing live in the author's separate trader-skill repository
- You want a ready recommendation of what to buy: the set works by rules and does not know your situation
Example request
Scan opening-range breakouts at 10:15 New York time and, for the best candidate, work out the stop and position size for a 50 dollar maximum lossLimitations
The set gives no financial advice, and most day traders lose money. The Time Machine is built from the stock's last 60 days of five-minute candles and knows nothing of upcoming earnings, halts and headlines. It is a reality check and does not serve as a forecast. Options, margin, short selling and leverage stay off until you turn them on. Python 3.8 or newer is required. For the SEC tools put your name and email in `trader/config.json` or in the `SEC_USER_AGENT` variable.
How to disable. For the Claude Code plugin run `/plugin uninstall day-trader-skill`. If you copied the folders, delete `trader-*` from `~/.claude/skills/`. Disconnect the broker connector in Claude's connector settings.
FAQ
How do I install Day Trader skill in Claude Code?
Run `/plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill`, then `/plugin install day-trader-skill@day-trader-skill`. The skills get a prefix like `/day-trader-skill:trader-scanner`. For short commands copy the `trader-*` folders into `~/.claude/skills/`.
Can the set send an order without my approval?
No. An order goes out only after three steps: the risk manager passed that exact order, you typed yes in the chat, and you clicked Allow once on Claude's permission card. The paper account is the default.
Where do the skills get data, and are keys needed?
The data is public: Yahoo Finance charts, Nasdaq Trader lists, SEC EDGAR and the House Clerk site. No signup or API key is needed, only a name and email for SEC requests.
What does the Time Machine show?
It replays the rest of the session 10,000 times from the stock's own candles and tests the same rule on real past days when the setup fired. The result is the odds of target, stop and still open. It is an estimate and does not predict the future price.
What does the trader-pelosi skill do?
It reads the stock-trade disclosures of US Congress members that the House Clerk publishes, right after they are filed. The data is public.

Chart Scanner. Scans thousands of charts for setups: opening-range
breakouts, flags, oversold bounces. Builds the list of US-listed common
stocks, ordinary shares and ADRs from Nasdaq Trader's symbol directories,
runs a pre-market scan of daily closes (20-day closing-high breakout, bull
flag, reclaimed the 20-day average, oversold, oversold bounce) and an
intraday opening-range breakout scan on 5-minute bars, then writes
trader/watchlist.json for trader-news and trader-entry. Free Yahoo data,
bar by bar. Use when the user says "scan the market", "find me setups",
"what is breaking out", "opening range breakouts", "scan for bull flags",
"oversold stocks", "pre-market scan", "build my watchlist", "what should I
look at today", or at the start of a trading day before /trader-news.

# trader-scanner
The Chart Scanner is the first step of a day trade. It reads thousands of
free charts and lists the ones that match a rule. That is all it does. A scan
is a list of charts that match a rule, not a list of stocks to buy, and a
setup on a chart is not a prediction. Most people who day trade lose money;
the scanner does not change that. It only saves you from flipping through
5,000 charts by hand.
`${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}` below is this skill's folder (where this SKILL.md lives).

Flags: `--min-price 5` and `--min-volume` (daily 1,000,000, orb 0),
`--or-minutes 15`, `--max-confirm 200` (orb stage 2),
`--now "2026-10-19 10:15"` (New York time) to pin the clock, `--offline PATH`
to read saved Yahoo files, `--no-write`, `--show N`, `--json`. Exit code 0
when the scan found something, 1 when it found nothing or could not run (the
reason is one plain line).
