What it does
The Trader skill adds a set of US equity workflows to Claude Code. The agent reads fund disclosures, compares positions across quarters and prepares target weights. Other skills allocate the chosen budget and check proposed orders against the user's constraints. Python scripts collect data from SEC EDGAR, US House disclosures and news feeds. Skills exchange results through files in `trader/`, including target weights and proposed orders. The collection also covers company financial statements and tax-lot records. Brokerage tools are connected separately; the collection prepares calculations and records for a trade.
Who it is for. For investors and analysts who want Claude to organize public filings and calculate allocations for a portfolio they manage.
Good fit when
- Reconstruct a fund's reported portfolio weights and compare them with the previous quarter
- Apply a fixed budget and position limits to a list of stocks
- Collect news and company disclosures for selected holdings
- Review one proposed order before using a brokerage tool and record the user's decision
Not a fit when
- You need intraday chart signals and an entry strategy
- You need Russian tax calculations or an existing connection to a Russian broker
- You want an agent to select stocks and manage money without your own review
Example request
Read the latest filing for the fund I specify, show changes in portfolio weights and the reporting date, and save the table. Do not submit brokerage orders.Limitations
Fund filings are delayed and omit assets and trades; copying weights does not reproduce entry prices or returns. Yahoo Finance’s unofficial quote endpoint may change its responses and break data collection. A brokerage account and connector are separate; textual approval rules do not replace permissions on the actual trading tool, which can move money. Tax calculations follow US conventions and need checking for your circumstances.
How to disable. Remove the `trader-skill` plugin through Claude Code's plugin manager. For a manual install, remove the `trader-*` directories from the skills folder. Working files, decision logs and brokerage connections require separate cleanup.
FAQ
How can I start without live trades?
Start with public-filing analysis, which needs no broker. The sample configuration includes `paper: true`, but verify the paper account in the brokerage service before test orders. This file setting does not switch the actual account.
Why do SEC scripts need a name and email?
SEC requires software to identify the sender of requests. Set your own details in `SEC_USER_AGENT` or the `sec_user_agent` field in `trader/config.json`. This identifies the request rather than granting access to private filings.
Does `ticket.py` submit orders?
No. `trader-broker/ticket.py` renders order parameters, checks a prior verdict and records the user's reply. The agent invokes a separate brokerage tool under the client's permissions.
Can I use the collection in a regular chat?
Yes. Give the model an individual `SKILL.md` as instructions. A chat without local terminal access cannot run the Python tools, so data collection and file output need another route.
How do I check the reported portfolio weights?
Open the original SEC information table using the document link and accession number in the result. The skill should preserve the reporting date and mark uncertain identifier-to-ticker matches.
What license does the collection use?
MIT.

README in short
Skills can be installed individually by keeping the full selected directory. Background monitoring needs a scheduler in the agent environment.
