Extended access
Why this level
- `install` and `update` copy third-party skills into agent directories, and the model later follows their instructions
- Installing MCP servers edits client config files, though it makes a `.bak` copy first
- The CLI contacts agentskills.in and sends an anonymous command count

What it does
Agent Skills CLI installs from npm with `npm install -g agent-skills-cli` and gives one `skills` command for every agent. Skills come from the agentskills.in marketplace, from GitHub and any Git host, from npm packages and from a local folder. `skills install @facebook/verify -a claude, cursor` places a skill in the chosen agents' directories, and `--all` covers all 45 supported ones, including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot and Windsurf. Before copying, each skill and subagent goes through an automated scan: critical findings block the install and serious ones print a warning. `skills update --all` updates what is installed and `skills remove` deletes it. `skills doctor --deep` looks for conflicting skills, `skills audit` checks installed skills against security advisories, and `skills score` rates quality from 0 to 100. Teams get a `.skillsrc` config, lockfile installs through `skills frozen` and a context budget: `skills budget -b 8000` picks the skills that fit 8,000 tokens for a project. Marketplace items of type MCP server, subagent or plugin install too; MCP config files are merged without overwriting, and a `.bak` copy is written first.
Who it is for. Developers and teams that keep skills in several agents at once and want to install and update them with one command, with a scan.
Good fit when
- The same skill is needed in Claude Code and Cursor and copying folders into both directories is tedious
- A skill sits in a private company repository and has to be installed over SSH or a token
- You want to check a suspicious marketplace skill with `skills audit` before the agent runs
- The agent's context is stuffed with skills and you want to keep the ones that fit a token budget
Not a fit when
- You need a single skill whose README already gives a copy command: a separate manager is excess
- Skills are for one agent that already has its own install manager
- You want to keep skills together with rules and subagents in one place: the catalog has skillshare for that
Example request
Find xlsx skills with skills, show the security scan result and install the chosen one into Claude Code and CursorLimitations
- Node.js 18 or newer is required. The agentskills.in marketplace and its figures (222 thousand skills) belong to the author's third-party service.
- The security scan gives an automated signal and no final verdict: read a skill before you run it.
- The CLI sends an anonymous command count to `agentskills.in`; turn it off with `DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1` or `DO_NOT_TRACK=1`.
- A MCP config file with comments (JSONC) is left untouched and the CLI refuses to change it; close the client before a global install.
How to disable. Remove skills with `skills remove` and the CLI itself with `npm uninstall -g agent-skills-cli`. The `~/.skills/` directory can be deleted by hand.
FAQ
How do I install Agent Skills CLI?
Run `npm install -g agent-skills-cli` and check with `skills --version`. Node.js 18 or newer is required.
How do I install a skill for one agent only?
Pass the agent key with `-a`, for example `skills install @facebook/verify -a claude`. Keys for all 45 agents are listed in the README and a global install takes `-g`.
What if the scanner blocked an install?
Read the findings in the output and the skill itself. If you trust the source, `--skip-audit` installs despite critical findings, but use it deliberately.
How do I install a skill from a private repository?
Pass the repository link: `skills install git@github.com:team/private-repo.git` uses your SSH keys, and for HTTPS set `--token` or the `GH_TOKEN` and `GITLAB_TOKEN` variables.
How do I publish my own skill to the marketplace?
Run `skills submit-repo owner/repo`: it submits the repository for indexing and every SKILL.md found in it enters the marketplace.

README in short
The README lists skill sources, commands, install options, then sections on security, context budget, a table of 45 agents, configuration and telemetry. Separate sections explain working with MCP servers, subagents and plugins and creating your own skill.
