Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- The tools download and install code from public repositories found by the registry without reviewing the content.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The project is two command-line tools. `claude-plugins` installs, enables, disables and lists Claude Code plugins, which land in `~/.claude/plugins/marketplaces/`. `skills-installer` installs Agent Skills into Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Codex, Amp, OpenCode, Goose, Letta, GitHub, Gemini CLI and other clients through the `--client` flag. An identifier like `@owner/repo/name` is resolved through a shared registry that returns a Git repository URL, then the tool clones it. `skills-installer search` opens interactive search sortable by relevance, stars and installs. The `skills-discovery` meta skill teaches an agent to find and install skills itself with the owner confirming.
Who it is for. Users of Claude Code and other skill-aware agents tired of cloning repositories and copying folders by hand.
Good fit when
- A skill has to be found by topic and installed without leaving the terminal.
- The same skill goes into both Cursor and Codex.
- A Claude Code plugin must be enabled or disabled without editing files.
- An agent should recommend suitable skills before starting a task.
Not a fit when
- Installation comes from a private repository while the registry indexes public ones only.
- Third-party code cannot be installed without manual review.
- Only one known skill is needed and copying it by hand is simpler.
Example request
Find a skill for interface accessibility checks and install it into Cursor with `skills-installer`.Limitations
Plugins need Claude Code 2.0.12 or newer. The tools install code from public repositories found by the registry, so review the source first. The registry nears the GitHub API rate limit and the authors ask users to share a token through an OAuth app; do that deliberately. Installing a plugin or skill runs third-party code with your user rights, and the registry grows without manual review of each item.
How to disable. Disable a plugin with `claude-plugins disable <name>` and delete installed folders from `~/.claude/plugins/marketplaces/` or `~/.claude/skills/`.
FAQ
How do the two tools differ?
`claude-plugins` manages Claude Code plugins and `skills-installer` installs Agent Skills into different clients.
How do I pick a client?
With the `--client` flag, for example `--client cursor`. The default is `claude-code`.
Where do skills go?
To `~/.claude/skills/` globally or `./.claude/skills/` with the `--local` flag.
How do I find a skill?
Run `npx skills-installer search`: it is interactive and results sort by relevance, stars and installs.
What is skills-discovery?
A meta skill: the agent searches for suitable skills before a task and installs them after you confirm.
