What it does
easy-sharing starts a small web server for a selected file or folder. A user scans the QR code on a phone and opens it in a normal browser. This transfers an agent-prepared report or archive between devices on the same network without a separate client app. It also receives multiple files and exchanges clipboard text. Folders can download as ZIP archives. Time or first-transfer limits support temporary sharing, with secret links, passwords and HTTPS available for access control.
Who it is for. Local team members moving an agent-produced file to a phone or receiving material from a mobile device.
Good fit when
- A finished report needs opening on a phone on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Instead of downloading files individually, the user wants the selected folder as one archive.
- Several mobile files need uploading into a dedicated directory.
- Temporary file sharing should stop after the first completed transfer.
Not a fit when
- Devices are on separate networks without an external connection setup.
- You need continuous file-version synchronization between devices.
- The selected folder must not be accessible to other users on the current network.
Example request
Prepare a temporary protected share of only the finished report folder and end it after the first download.Limitations
A default share is open to other users on the same network; enable `--secure` separately for private sharing. Automatic HTTPS uses a self-signed certificate, so the browser may require a trust check. On macOS, `sharing` already names a system utility; use `easy-sharing` for this CLI. On multi-interface machines, the selected address may be unreachable from the phone, requiring an explicit network interface.
How to disable. Stop the web-server process and verify that its page no longer opens. Received and downloaded copies remain on the devices.
FAQ
Does the phone need an app?
No. A browser and access to the selected network are enough.
What if the QR code will not scan?
Open the printed link or use `--open` to show a browser-rendered QR code on the computer.
Can I download a whole folder?
Yes. The page offers the folder as a ZIP archive.
How do I receive files from a phone?
Start a dedicated destination with `--receive`; the browser shows an upload form.
Can sharing close automatically?
Yes. `--once` stops after the first transfer, and `--timeout` limits duration.
