Why this level

  • Code fragments go to the embedding provider
  • Provider keys are needed

Install

Manual install

brew install muvon/tap/octocode

Or cargo install octocode. MCP: claude mcp add octocode -- octocode mcp --path /path/to/project. Embedding keys are needed.

Access and checks

How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • Code fragments go to the embedding provider
  • Provider keys are needed

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

Octocode searches code structurally and by meaning and builds a knowledge graph of the project. MCP mode connects with `claude mcp add octocode -- octocode mcp --path /path/to/project`. Installation: `brew install muvon/tap/octocode` or `cargo install octocode`. Embeddings need provider keys, for example `VOYAGE_API_KEY` or `OPENROUTER_API_KEY`, and code fragments go to that provider. Version 0.26.4 from 30.09.2026, Apache-2.0 license, the Muvon organization.

Who it is for. For developers who need meaning-based search and a knowledge graph for a big repository.

Good fit when

  • You need structural and semantic code search
  • You need a knowledge graph of the project
  • You need an MCP mode for code search

Not a fit when

  • You cannot send code to an external embedding provider
  • You need fully local search with no keys

Example request

Find where payment errors are handled and build a call graph up to the handler

Limitations

For embeddings code fragments go to the provider by your key, so access is extended: do not index closed repositories without permission. The Muvon organization is tied to its own service. Version 0.26.

How to disable. Remove the program the way you installed it, the server entry from the client and the project index.

FAQ

What does Octocode do?

It searches code structurally and by meaning and builds a project knowledge graph.

Does code leave the machine?

For embeddings yes: the key provider receives code fragments.

How do I connect it to Claude Code?

claude mcp add octocode -- octocode mcp --path /path/to/project.
