What it does
Pake CLI builds a desktop wrapper around a web page or local static files. Users provide a URL, app name and window settings, then it packages the app with Tauri. The website icon can be fetched automatically or replaced. Automation uses JSON output and declarative configuration. An agent can inspect build results and report the package path. The repository also provides an official skill for Claude Code and Codex.
Who it is for. Web-tool authors distributing an existing interface as a standalone desktop application.
Good fit when
- An internal web service needs its own window and icon.
- A local static build should be delivered as a desktop application.
- Several packages need consistent settings stored in JSON.
- An agent needs machine-readable build results without installer interaction.
Not a fit when
- You need to rewrite a web app using native platform components.
- The site must work offline but depends on remote data.
- A local SPA requires history routing that cannot be changed.
Example request
Package our local dist build with this icon. Use JSON output and do not install the generated app automatically.Limitations
Builds require Node.js 20.9 or newer and Rust 1.85 or newer; JSON or unattended runs fail with an environment error when Rust is missing. Local directories must contain `index.html` at the root. Hash routing works for local apps, while SPA history routing is not yet supported. Wrapping a remote site retains dependencies on its server, sign-in and network access, so evaluate offline behavior separately.
How to disable. Uninstall Pake CLI through the package manager. Remove generated applications separately using the operating system’s normal procedure.
FAQ
Can I package a dist folder?
Yes. Supply a static-file directory with `index.html` at its root and test navigation in the resulting app.
Where does the icon come from?
Pake fetches the site icon by default. Supply a local file or icon URL to customize it.
What does an automated run return without Rust?
It returns `ENV_MISSING`. Prepare the required environment and retry without expecting an interactive prompt.
Can I reuse settings without a long command?
Yes. Save them in JSON and pass `--config app.json`. Validate the configuration against the project schema.
What is the default macOS output?
A DMG installer. Documented build options can produce an `.app` bundle for testing.

README in short
App window dimensions and appearance are configurable. A separate GitHub Actions workflow supports users without a local build environment.
