What it does
peon-ping plays voice lines and shows banners when the agent finishes or asks for permission, so you do not have to watch the terminal. It hooks into agent events: for Claude Code the hook is built in, other harnesses use adapters, and events are normalized to a common format. Sound packs come from games such as Warcraft, StarCraft, Portal and Zelda, and you can install, switch, bind them to a project directory and build your own. Control goes through the peon CLI: pause, volume, status, rotation, pack management, plus auto-muting on do not disturb. There is also an MCP server through which the agent picks the sound itself via a tool call instead of playing a fixed one on every event.
Who it is for. For developers who run an agent in a terminal or IDE and do not want to keep checking whether it is done.

The tool targets macOS, Linux, WSL2 and Windows, and each system has its own audio quirks. On WSL2 audio plays through Windows, and on Windows 11 24H2 and newer MP3 packs need ffmpeg. Some CLI commands on Windows are still being brought to parity. During install the tool downloads sound packs and registers hooks in the agent's configuration. The MCP server needs Node.js 18 or newer.
How to disable. To mute temporarily use peon toggle or peon pause. To remove it fully run uninstall.sh or uninstall.ps1 from the peon-ping hooks directory.

Which agents does it work with?
For Claude Code the hook is built in; many other harnesses and IDEs have adapters that normalize events to a common format. It also works with any MCP client through the built-in MCP server.
Can I mute it temporarily?
Yes, with peon toggle or peon pause, and with a slash command in Claude Code. You can also enable auto-muting on do not disturb.
