Hook-driven sounds for coding agents: starts, failures, completions and even individual Bash commands each get their own cue

Extended access
Why this level
- Installation appends hooks to agent settings files and runs the binary on every event.
- Sound tracking writes a local database in the cache directory.
Install
- Works in
Manual install
go install claudio.click/cmd/claudio@latestBuilding from source needs Go 1.25.13 or newer; a prebuilt binary can be downloaded from GitHub releases. `claudio install` then sets up hooks.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- Installation appends hooks to agent settings files and runs the binary on every event.
- Sound tracking writes a local database in the cache directory.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
Claudio listens to hook events from Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Command Code and OpenCode and plays a matching sound without making the agent wait for playback. Tool starts and successes, failures, prompts, notifications, completions, context compaction, session starts and subagent events each get their own sound. Bash commands are parsed, so `git commit`, `npm test` and `go build` sound different. Soundpacks come in three forms: a directory, a JSON map and a git repository added with `claudio soundpack add`. Supported formats are WAV, MP3 and AIFF.
Who it is for. Developers who leave long agent tasks running in the background and want to follow progress by ear.
Good fit when
- The agent works in another window and a finish or failure must be noticed at once.
- Different tools and Bash commands should sound different.
- One sound set is wanted in both Claude Code and Codex.
- The agent runs over SSH and audio has to reach the local machine through PulseAudio.
Not a fit when
- You work in a shared room where sounds would disturb others.
- Agent hooks are taken by another tool and cannot be changed.
- The server has no audio device and no PulseAudio forwarding.
Example request
Install Claudio, set up hooks for Claude Code and set the volume to 0.4.Limitations
`claudio install` edits agent settings files, for Claude Code that is `~/.claude/settings.json` or the `CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR` directory; back it up first. After installing hooks in Codex, run `/hooks` and trust the Claudio hook. OpenCode has no settings hooks, so Claudio writes a plugin to `~/.config/opencode/plugins/claudio.js`. Sound tracking is on by default and writes to a local SQLite database. On a remote machine without audio Claudio stays silent.
How to disable. Run `claudio uninstall --agent all --scope global` and delete the binary. `claudio mute` silences it without uninstalling.
FAQ
How do I connect Claudio to a single agent?
Pass the agent with a flag: `claudio install --agent codex --scope global`. Without it `claudio install` detects every supported agent and installs hooks for all.
How do I replace the default sounds?
Scaffold a pack with `claudio soundpack init my-pack --from-platform`, add WAV, MP3 or AIFF files and install it via `claudio soundpack install ./my-pack.json --default`.
How do I see which sounds a pack lacks?
`claudio analyze missing --preset last-week` lists missing fallbacks for the past week and `claudio analyze usage` summarizes the sounds in use.
Which agents does Claudio support?
Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, Command Code and OpenCode.
How do I mute the sound temporarily?
Run `claudio mute` and bring sound back with `claudio unmute`. `claudio volume 0.4` changes the level.

README in short
Prebuilt binaries are in GitHub releases and bundle the audio backend, so no C compiler is needed. Hook installation, volume and mute have separate commands.
