vkr-docx: thesis formatting per GOST 7.32-2017
vkr-docx
A Python package with a CLI and a /vkr slash command for Claude Code that formats thesis chapters into a GOST 7.32-2017 docx
Medium risk
We rate an entry medium when the tool runs code, makes network calls or reads project files. Check what exactly it does before installing.
Why this level
- The install script writes to the shared ~/.claude/commands and ~/CLAUDE.md by default, not just the current project
- It only works with the user's local docx files and sends nothing outside
Install
Manual install
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/twint1m/vkr-docx/main/install.sh | bashThe only install method the README recommends: clones the repo into ~/projects/vkr-docx, installs the package and copies the /vkr command.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The user writes a chapter in markdown and puts figures named like fig-1.png into one folder; the agent calls the Python VKRDocument class to add three levels of headings, body text, auto-scaled captioned figures, and bordered captioned tables. Separately it can refresh two-way cross-references between text and captions and rebuild the table of contents with leader dots. Default styles follow GOST 7.32-2017: Times New Roman 14pt, 1.5 line spacing, 3/1.5/2/2 cm margins, overridable in config.yaml. The package ships a vkr-docx CLI with fix-styles, crossrefs, toc and full-fix commands, and on save the file is renamed with a version like VKR 0.A.B.docx, where A is the chapter and B the revision count, up to the final VKR 1.0.0.
Who it is for. For students writing a thesis chapter by chapter in markdown with Claude Code who want formatting, cross-references and the table of contents kept up to date automatically.
Good fit when
- You write a thesis chapter by chapter in markdown and want a GOST 7.32-2017 docx out
- You need automatic captions and two-way references for figures and tables
- You need a CLI to fix styles, references or the table of contents in an already assembled docx
Not a fit when
- Your university requires a different local standard, not GOST 7.32-2017
- You don't want the installer touching your global ~/CLAUDE.md and ~/.claude/commands: install.sh does this by default
- You need a review of the scholarly content, not just formatting
Example request
Here's chapter3.md and images in the images folder, add this to the thesis and update the table of contentsLimitations
No license file is registered on GitHub, though the README calls the project MIT. It is version 0.1.0 from a single author, with no tests in the repository tree and no section on functional limitations. The install.sh script installs the package globally (pip install -e) by default, copies the /vkr command into the shared ~/.claude/commands folder and appends instructions to the shared ~/CLAUDE.md rather than only the current project. The README explicitly warns not to clone the repository manually and to use install.sh instead.
How to disable. Delete ~/.claude/commands/vkr.md, remove the appended vkr_docx block from ~/CLAUDE.md, and run pip uninstall vkr-docx.
Security check
- The install script writes to the shared ~/.claude/commands and ~/CLAUDE.md by default, not just the current project
- It only works with the user's local docx files and sends nothing outside
README in short
The README describes a Claude Code skill that formats a thesis into docx per GOST 7.32-2017: styles, headings, auto-scaled figures, tables, two-way cross-references, a leader-dot table of contents, and file versioning like VKR 0.A.B. It shows the markdown format for a chapter, image naming rules, a sample config.yaml for overriding margins and font, and a versioning table. Install is only through install.sh; manual cloning is discouraged. MIT license.
FAQ
How is formatting adapted to a different university?
Through config.yaml in the working folder: page margins, font and size can be overridden; defaults follow GOST 7.32-2017.
What does install.sh do besides installing the package?
It copies the /vkr command into ~/.claude/commands and appends instructions to ~/CLAUDE.md, so the command becomes available in every Claude Code project, not just one.
