Broad access
Why this level
- Invoked skills can modify repositories and external services within granted credentials.
- The local job process receives the MCP server’s environment variables, including forwarded secrets.

What it does
Aeon MCP is a job server connecting an agent chat to an Aeon repository. Through the hosted connector, the agent chooses a skill, runs it in GitHub Actions and reads its output and saved memory. The connection also supports repository setup inspection and edits to skills and strategy. A local server runs skills through an installed agent CLI and returns results to the MCP client. Users choose between GitHub Actions and their own machine, with the files and credentials available in that environment.
Who it is for. Developers maintaining Aeon repositories and invoking jobs from their MCP client.
Good fit when
- A user starts a repository skill from a chat.
- After a background job, the agent reads its output and saved memory.
- A maintainer adjusts schedules and strategy in a dedicated Aeon repository.
- An MCP client invokes a one-off skill locally.
Not a fit when
- You need a process that never changes repositories or external services.
- The GitHub App must not receive access to the selected repository.
- All output must remain on the computer but the hosted route is selected.

Limitations
Hosted access requires an Aeon repository with the GitHub App and available Actions minutes. Local runs need a repository clone, Node.js 20 or later and an authenticated agent CLI. Child processes inherit the MCP server environment, including forwarded keys, so inspect its contents before running a job. The project includes a third-party Pi route using Claude subscription OAuth; it may violate Anthropic terms and is excluded from this setup. Use the official CLI or API.
How to disable. Remove the connector from the MCP client. For hosted runs, separately disable Actions schedules and revoke the GitHub App’s access to unneeded repositories.
FAQ
How does hosted MCP authenticate?
OAuth 2.1 with GitHub sign-in. During sign-in, the user selects which Aeon repository the client can access.
Can the connector read secrets?
No. Hosted MCP cannot read or write secret values; setup inspection shows only key names.
How does the local tool set differ?
It publishes one tool for each catalog skill. Hosted tools provide shared repository and run-management operations.
Can both local and hosted connections be named aeon?
Not at the same time. The `bin/add-mcp` script registers the local server as `aeon` and removes an existing connection with that name. Choose a different name for the hosted connection.
What is the limit for one local call?
Up to 30 minutes. The server waits for the skill to finish and returns its output.

README in short
The local server reads `catalog/skills.json` and obtains job parameters from the selected skill. If the catalog is missing, it can start with no tools; restore the catalog file in the working copy first.
