What it does
AKTools wraps AKShare, an open collection of financial data interfaces, into two services. The HTTP API starts with `python -m aktools`, and any language or program gets data from addresses like `/api/public/<interface name>`. The `aktools-mcp` MCP server connects to an agent and needs no separately running service. The agent gets three tools. `search_interfaces` finds an interface by keywords, `describe_interface` shows its parameters and defaults, `get_data` returns the data. From a request such as daily Kweichow Moutai quotes for October 2024 with adjusted prices, the agent finds the right interface itself and fills in the parameters. The same data exports as JSON, CSV or XLSX. A repeat request with the same parameters within 60 seconds comes from the cache, which reduces calls to the source sites.
Who it is for. For analysts and developers who ask Claude Code, Cursor or Claude Desktop about Chinese markets and want AKShare tables without writing their own code.

Limitations
- Needs Python 3.11 or newer. The first run through `uvx` downloads dependencies, including AKShare, about 150 MB.
- The data comes from public source sites, so interfaces break when a site changes its markup. The developer advises upgrading `akshare` and `aktools` to the latest versions.
- Some interfaces work only from a network inside China; see the AKShare documentation.
- Errors in the data itself come from AKShare: AKTools only forwards requests and returns the answer as is.
How to disable. Remove the aktools entry from the agent's MCP configuration, for Claude Code with `claude mcp remove aktools`. Stop the HTTP service with Ctrl+C in the terminal where it runs, and uninstall the package with `pip uninstall aktools`.

How do I install AKTools in Claude Code?
Run `claude mcp add aktools -- uvx --from aktools aktools-mcp`. You need uv first. There is no need to install the package ahead of time or start a service by hand.
Can I deploy AKTools on a server for a team?
Yes, the HTTP API deploys in Docker with Gunicorn. Then several computers and scripts in different languages share one service.
How does the AKTools MCP mode differ from the HTTP API?
MCP connects to an agent and starts itself through `uvx`. The HTTP API starts with `python -m aktools` and suits scripts and apps in any language. They share the interface catalog, cache and error handling.
Can an agent connect to an AKTools service that is already running?
Yes, a running service exposes `http://127.0.0.1:8080/mcp`. For Claude Code, for example: `claude mcp add --transport http aktools http://127.0.0.1:8080/mcp`.
Why does the data not refresh right away?
Responses are cached for 60 seconds. The `X-AKTools-Cache: hit` header shows a cached answer. Starting with `--cache-ttl 0` turns the cache off.
