What it does
The server works in two modes. File IPC drives a live AutoCAD LT 2024 or newer on Windows 10 and 11 through AutoLISP. Headless ezdxf needs no AutoCAD, runs on any system and writes DXF files. There are eight consolidated tools: drawing, entity, layer, block, annotation, pid (P&ID diagrams), view and system. Exchange with AutoCAD goes through JSON files in the C:/temp folder. The AUTOCAD_MCP_BACKEND variable sets the mode: auto, file_ipc or ezdxf.
Who it is for. For engineers and drafters who work in AutoCAD LT or prepare DXF and want to give an agent layers, blocks, annotations and diagrams.
Good fit when

Limitations
In File IPC mode the server runs AutoLISP in an open AutoCAD LT, so work on a copy of the drawing. Windows 10 or 11, an installed licensed AutoCAD LT 2024 or newer, Python 3.10 or newer for Windows (not WSL) and the uv manager are required. The mcp_dispatch.lsp file has to be loaded into AutoCAD by hand with APPLOAD. There is no PyPI package: install from the repository sources. P&ID symbols need the CTO library in the C:\PIDv4-CTO\ folder.
How to disable. Remove the AutoCAD server entry from the client config and unload mcp_dispatch.lsp from AutoCAD. The exchange files in C:/temp can be deleted.
FAQ
Do I need AutoCAD?
No, if you choose the ezdxf mode: the server writes DXF files itself. Controlling a live drawing needs AutoCAD LT 2024 or newer on Windows.
Is there a PyPI package?
No. Per the README you install from the repository sources: clone and run uv sync.
What does AUTOCAD_MCP_BACKEND mean?
The server mode: auto chooses itself, file_ipc drives AutoCAD LT through AutoLISP, ezdxf works without AutoCAD and writes DXF.
How is it different from AutoCAD MCP Pro?
This server works with AutoCAD LT through AutoLISP and has eight consolidated tools, while Pro uses COM, a PyPI package and hundreds of tools.
