Broad access
Why this level
- In COM mode it drives a live AutoCAD and changes the open drawing
- Hundreds of tools give the agent wide rights over drawing files
- The author lists the release's weak spots
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add mcp/autocad-mcp-proDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
The server installs as the PyPI package autocad-mcp-pro and runs on Python 3.11 or newer. The version 1.6 README lists 247 registered tools (242 announced by default) in 28 groups. There are two engines: COM drives a live AutoCAD on Windows, and headless ezdxf writes DXF files on any system. The discovery mode shows the agent two tools instead of the whole catalog: the author cites 356 tokens instead of 83,921. The AUTOCAD_MCP_BACKEND variable switches the engine: ezdxf, com or auto.
Who it is for. For engineers and CAD automation developers who need a wide set of drawing operations and work without AutoCAD.
Good fit when
- You need a large set of tools for drawings rather than eight consolidated ones
- You need to save context tokens when working with hundreds of tools
- You need DXF on a server without AutoCAD installed
Not a fit when
- You need a simple server for AutoCAD LT through AutoLISP: puran-water/autocad-mcp is simpler
- You are not ready to let an agent drive a live AutoCAD through COM
Example request
Build a floor plan from the dimensions in the table, sort the lines into layers and save the result as DXFMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Environment variables
AUTOCAD_MCP_BACKEND- Engine: ezdxf, com or auto
Limitations
In COM mode the agent drives a live AutoCAD on Windows and changes the open drawing, so work on a copy. A licensed installed AutoCAD is required; the mode without the program needs only Python 3.11. Rendering needs Pillow (the pdf extra). The author lists the release's weak spots in the section What this release is bad at: read it before working. The tool count comes from the README; the GitHub repository description gives another number (122) and is outdated.
How to disable. Remove the server entry from the client config and run pip uninstall autocad-mcp-pro.
FAQ
How many tools does the server have?
The version 1.6 README lists 247, with 242 announced by default. The number 122 in the repository description is outdated.
What is the discovery mode?
The agent sees two tools instead of the whole catalog and finds the right one by request. The author cites 356 tokens instead of 83,921.
Do I need AutoCAD?
For the COM engine yes, on Windows. The ezdxf engine works without AutoCAD on any system and writes DXF.
How do I install it?
With pip install autocad-mcp-pro or through uvx autocad-mcp-pro.
