What it does
The server connects an agent to a running Revit through a plugin. The README lists 26 tools: reading the view, elements, family types and selection, material volumes, element filtering and model statistics, creating point, line and surface elements, grids, levels, rooms, dimensions and beam framing, element operations and deletion, coloring, wall and room tags, room export and a local project data store. Setup has three parts: an MCP server on Node.js, a Revit plugin in C# and a command set. The server talks to the plugin over WebSocket. Revit 2020–2026 on Windows is supported.
Who it is for. For designers and BIM specialists who work in Revit and want to hand routine to an agent: selections, volume schedules, placing elements.
Good fit when

Limitations
The server runs commands inside your Revit model. The send_code_to_revit tool receives and runs arbitrary C# code and delete_element deletes elements, so work on a copy of the project and confirm the agent's steps. Windows, an installed licensed Revit 2020–2026 and Node.js 18 or newer are required. The plugin is installed by hand from a ZIP for your Revit version, and on the first launch Revit asks permission to load an unknown plugin. The repository is a fork of the same organization's revit-mcp: the original is archived, and this project continues it with extra tools.
How to disable. Remove the mcp-server-for-revit entry from the client config, delete the plugin files from the Addins folder of your Revit version and restart Revit.

What do I need to install?
Three parts: an MCP server on Node.js 18 or newer, a Revit plugin from a ZIP and a command set. Take the ZIP from the repository Releases for your Revit version.
Why is send_code_to_revit risky?
It accepts C# code and runs it inside Revit with the rights of your model. Work on a copy of the project and do not approve code you have not read.
How is this different from the old revit-mcp?
It continues the archived project of the same organization with extra tools.
