What it does

The server runs a Mineflayer-based Minecraft bot and hands control of it to an agent over MCP. The bot joins your world opened to LAN and follows natural-language commands: move to coordinates, fly, look at a point, jump, dig and place blocks, find blocks and entities, manage the inventory, smelt items, send and read chat, and detect the game mode. You can upload an image of a build and ask the bot to reproduce it. The connection is set through host, port and username in the client config.

Who it is for. For developers and enthusiasts who want to control a Minecraft character through an agent.

Good fit when

  • You want to build or explore in your Minecraft world by chat
  • You want to experiment with a game bot and MCP
  • You want to reproduce a build from an image

Not a fit when

  • Your Minecraft version does not match the one supported in the README
  • The world is not opened to LAN and the bot cannot connect

Example request

In Minecraft, move to coordinates 100, 64, 200 and build a three by three stone wall there

Limitations

You need Node.js 20.10 or newer, Git and a running Minecraft Java Edition with a world opened to LAN. The README notes support for a specific game version; newer ones may not work. By default the bot connects to localhost and port 25565, and parameters are set in the client config. The sample setup targets Claude Desktop.

How to disable. Remove the server entry from your MCP client config and fully restart the application.

README in short

The README explains that a Mineflayer bot is controlled by large language models over MCP and is aimed at Claude Desktop. It shows the steps: open a world to LAN, paste a config with npx github:yuniko-software/minecraft-mcp-server and host, port, username parameters, and restart the client. It lists commands for movement, flight, inventory, blocks, furnaces, entities, chat and game state. It notes support for a specific Minecraft version. Apache-2.0 licensed.

FAQ

How does the bot join the game?

You open a singleplayer world to LAN, and the bot connects to localhost and port 25565 unless you set other parameters.

What is the bot built on?

The Mineflayer API. Its control is handed to the agent over MCP.
