Broad access
Why this level
- The terminal tool runs system commands as your user
- File tools write and merge files, so an agent mistake can overwrite something you need
- The browser tool controls your Chrome and sees open pages
Install

Manual install
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gojue/moling/HEAD/install/install.sh)"Script for Linux and macOS. The repository holds install.ps1 for Windows, which the author is unsure works. Binaries are also on the releases page.

What it does
MoLing is an MCP server written in Go that gives an agent three groups of tools on your computer. File tools read, write and merge files and compute statistics over them. A terminal tool runs system commands. A browser tool drives Chrome through the chromedp library, so Chrome must be installed on the machine. The server ships as a ready executable for Windows, Linux and macOS and needs no runtime. It has two modes: stdio for work from a client and SSE for server environments without a UI. The moling client --install command finds installed MCP clients and writes the server launch entry into their configuration. Server settings live in config.json in the .moling folder of the home directory.
Who it is for. For people who work in Claude Desktop, Cline or Cherry Studio and want to give the agent access to files, a terminal and a browser through one local server.
Good fit when
- You want an agent to merge several text files into one and compute statistics over them
- You want one server for files, a terminal and a browser in place of three separate ones
- An agent has to open a page in your Chrome and pull data out of it
- A headless environment needs an MCP server that answers over SSE
Not a fit when
- You are on Windows or Linux and need proven behavior: the author tested the server only on macOS
- The agent cannot be trusted to run commands on your system
- You need a browser other than Chrome: the browser tool is built on chromedp
Example request
Merge all .md files from the notes folder into one all.md file and show how many lines it hasMCP
- Transport
- stdio, sse
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
The server is tested only on macOS. Windows and Linux may have problems, and the author has not checked the Windows install script. The browser tool needs Chrome, and on Windows the full path to it goes into environment variables. The terminal tool runs commands with no confirmation from the server, so protection rests on the client and on you: check what the agent is about to run. Personal data organization, document help and scheduling are still only plans.
How to disable. Remove the MoLing entry from mcpServers in the client configuration and restart the client. You can delete the binary and the .moling folder in your home directory by hand.
FAQ
How do I connect MoLing to Claude Desktop?
Download the binary and add an mcpServers block to claude_desktop_config with a MoLing key and the command /usr/local/bin/moling with no arguments. Restart Claude Desktop after the edit.
Does MoLing need Node or Docker?
No. The server ships as an executable and needs no runtime. Only the browser features require an installed Chrome.
Which modes does MoLing support?
Stdio for launch from a client and SSE for automated environments without a UI.
Which MCP clients does MoLing support?
Claude, Cline and Cherry Studio, plus any client that supports MCP. Automatic setup detects Cline, Claude and Roo Code.
Where is the MoLing server configuration?
In config.json in the .moling folder of your home directory. If the file is missing, create it with moling config --init.

README in short
The author presents MoLing as a local office automation helper and warns about the danger of the command line right at the start. A client configuration example and three install routes follow.
