Extended access
Why this level
- The agent reads personal notes and, in edit mode, changes the texts themselves; the previous version is kept
- During an AI request the server decrypts the needed notes in memory
Install

Manual install
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http pinto-notes https://mcp.pintonotes.comNeeds the Pinto Notes app and approval inside it; the mode is chosen at approval.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- The agent reads personal notes and, in edit mode, changes the texts themselves; the previous version is kept
- During an AI request the server decrypts the needed notes in memory
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
Pinto Notes is a notes app for iPhone and Mac styled after Apple Notes, with an import from it. ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI connect to the notes through the MCP server https://mcp.pintonotes.com with OAuth 2.1 sign-in. The server exposes 12 file-like tools. You approve each connection in the app and choose a mode: read-only or read and edit. AI edits are highlighted with the author's name, the previous version is kept, and undo takes one tap. Version history shows who changed a note: you on iPhone, you on Mac, or which AI. A note can become a small app, such as a habit tracker, with the text staying underneath. Besides MCP, the repository has a Claude Code plugin with the old id amber-notes: a skill explains to Claude how the notes are laid out. An extension is available for Gemini CLI. Notes are encrypted on devices before upload, and sync between iPhone and Mac takes about half a second.
Who it is for. People who keep notes on Mac and iPhone and want to hand agents the work of drafting plans, checklists and drafts right inside those notes.
Good fit when
- An agent in Claude Code ticks checklist items and the changes show on the phone a second later
- ChatGPT drafts a trip plan into a separate note and its edits appear highlighted
- Notes from Apple Notes, Evernote, Google Keep and Markdown move into one app and are searched through the agent
- A note turns into a small app, such as a budget with automatic totals
- A connection is approved read-only so the agent searches the notes and changes nothing
Not a fit when
- Your devices are not Apple: the app is built in SwiftUI for iOS 26 and macOS 26
- The notes hold passwords or data that must not be decrypted on a server during an AI request
- You need an app for Windows or Android
- You need a variant with no sync server: sync between devices runs through Supabase

Limitations
The app needs macOS 26 and an iPhone with iOS 26. The README says the iPhone version is coming to the App Store soon. Notes locked with the notes password stay out of reach, and with Advanced protection on, losing every device and the recovery key closes access for good. The app was formerly called Amber Notes, and the address mcp.ambernotes.app keeps working. Sync runs through Supabase, and you deploy your own backend by following the README.
How to disable. Disconnect the AI in the app: each token is revoked in the connections section. In Claude Code run claude mcp remove pinto-notes, and the plugin is removed with claude plugin uninstall amber-notes.
FAQ
How do I connect Pinto Notes to Claude Code?
Download the Mac app and sign in, then run claude mcp add --scope user --transport http pinto-notes https://mcp.pintonotes.com. Approve access in the app on iPhone or Mac and pick a mode.
Can I limit the AI to read-only?
Yes. When approving a connection you choose read-only or read and edit. AI tokens are stored as hashes, and access is revoked in the app.
Can I undo an edit made by an AI?
Yes. Every change is labeled with the AI's name, the previous version is kept, undo takes one tap, and version history shows the author of each edit.
How do I connect Codex and Gemini CLI?
For Codex run codex mcp add pinto-notes --url https://mcp.pintonotes.com. For Gemini CLI install the extension: gemini extensions install https://github.com/pinto-notes/pinto-notes.
Does the server decrypt notes during an AI request?
Yes, it decrypts the needed notes in memory for the duration of the request. Notes locked with the notes password stay closed because the key for them is not stored on the server.

README in short
The README details the app's features, imports from Apple Notes, Evernote, Google Keep and Markdown, the project layout and building from source. Separate sections cover connecting an AI and the encryption model, including what the server sees during a request.
