Broad access
Why this level
- The eval_ruby tool is on by default and runs arbitrary code inside SketchUp
- Creates and changes the geometry of your model
- Works with a live program on your computer
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add mcp/sketchup-mcp2Detects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
The server has two parts. A Ruby extension in the .rbz format starts a TCP server inside SketchUp (127.0.0.1, port 9876 by default), and the Python MCP server connects to it. The README lists typed tools: creating and changing geometry, materials, scene export to skp, obj, dae and stl, image export to png and jpg and a view screenshot. Several clients work at once, and a strategy hint helps the agent build a model step by step. The PyPI package is called sketchup-mcp2, version 0.3.1.
Who it is for. For architects, interior designers and modelers who work in SketchUp and want to hand an agent the building of volumes and scene export.
Good fit when
- You need to quickly build a volume or a set of parts from a description and dimensions
- You need to assign materials and export the scene to OBJ, STL or SKP
- You need a screenshot of the scene view right in the agent chat
Not a fit when
- You have no installed SketchUp: the server only drives the live program
- You are not ready to let an agent run arbitrary Ruby in your model
Example request
Build a 120 by 60 centimeter table with four legs, assign a wood material and export the scene to OBJMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Environment variables
SKETCHUP_MCP_HOST- Address of the SketchUp extension, 127.0.0.1 by default
SKETCHUP_MCP_PORT- Extension port, 9876 by default
Limitations
The eval_ruby tool is on by default and runs arbitrary Ruby code inside SketchUp: turn it off in the extension settings if you do not need it, and work on a copy of the model. An installed SketchUp, the .rbz extension from Releases (Window, Extension Manager, Install Extension, then a restart) and starting the server in SketchUp through Plugins, MCP Server are required. The project is young, and we did not recount the tools in the README.
How to disable. Remove the server entry from the client config and disable the extension in the SketchUp Extension Manager.
FAQ
What do I need to install?
The .rbz extension in SketchUp and the Python MCP server, started with uvx sketchup-mcp2.
Which port does it use?
127.0.0.1 and port 9876 by default. The SKETCHUP_MCP_HOST and SKETCHUP_MCP_PORT variables set the address and port.
Why is eval_ruby risky?
It runs arbitrary Ruby code inside SketchUp and is on by default. It can be turned off in the extension settings.
Which formats does it export?
The scene to skp, obj, dae and stl, as well as png and jpg images.

README in short
The README describes a pair of a SketchUp extension and a Python MCP server: typed tools, scene export, several clients, a modeling strategy hint and eval_ruby. Installation is the .rbz from Releases and uvx sketchup-mcp2. MIT license.
