What it does
The Python 3.10+ server drives SolidWorks 2023–2025 on Windows 10 and 11 and finds the program installation through the registry on its own. The README lists 22 tools: parts, sketches, operations on solids and utilities. Installation is from sources: clone the repository, run pip install -r requirements.txt and launch solidworks_mcp_server.py, then add the script path to the client config.
Who it is for. For designers who want a simple SolidWorks server without Node.js and VBA: parts, sketches and operations.
Good fit when
- You need to create a part and a sketch from a description and dimensions
- You need a small set of tools in Python without building native modules
- You need to quickly test an idea before taking a large server
Not a fit when
- You need drawings, export and VBA macros: the TypeScript server has more of them
- You have no Windows and no licensed SolidWorks
Example request
Create a part: a 50 by 50 mm square sketch, a 30 mm extrude and a 3 mm fillet on the edgesMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
Windows 10 or 11, an installed licensed SolidWorks 2023–2025 and Python 3.10 or newer are required. The server installs from sources; there is no ready package. It runs operations in your SolidWorks, so work on a copy of the model. The repository was last updated in March 2026.
How to disable. Remove the server entry from the client config and delete the repository clone.
FAQ
Which SolidWorks versions are supported?
SolidWorks 2023–2025 on Windows 10 and 11.
How does the server find SolidWorks?
It looks for the program installation in the Windows registry, so you do not need to give a path.
How many tools does it have?
22: parts, sketches, operations and utilities.
How is it different from the TypeScript version?
It is simpler: fewer tools, no VBA macros and no native module builds. The TypeScript version is wider, but its author has not verified most of its tools.
