What it does
The server on Python 3.10 or newer has two parts: an MCP server talking over stdio and the Fusion360MCP add-in inside Fusion 360. They talk over TCP on port 9876, and commands run in Fusion's main thread. The README lists 93 tools. Some tools need a recent 2026 Fusion build, the author says. The server installs as the PyPI package fusion360-mcp-server, and the --mode socket argument sets the link mode. The FUSION_MCP_HOST variable configures access from the local network.
Who it is for. For designers and engineers who model in Fusion 360 and want to control sketches, solids and parameters from an agent.
Good fit when
- You need to build a part from a description and dimensions
- You need to change model parameters from a list
- You need to check and adjust a project with commands from the chat
Not a fit when
- You have no installed Fusion 360: the server only drives the live program
- You need proven stability: the project is in Beta
Example request
Build a cylinder 40 mm in diameter and 60 mm high and make a 10 mm through hole in itMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Environment variables
FUSION_MCP_HOST- Fusion address for local network access
Limitations
The author marks the project as Beta: behavior and the API may change. It was tested on Fusion build 2705 for macOS arm64 and with Claude Code. The add-in has to be copied to the AddIns folder and started by hand in Fusion (Shift+S, Add-Ins). Commands run in your project, so work on a copy. Install a licensed Fusion 360 yourself.
How to disable. Remove the fusion360 entry from the client config and stop the Fusion360MCP add-in in Fusion. The add-in folder can be deleted from AddIns.
FAQ
What do I need besides the server?

How many tools does it have?
The README lists 93, and some need a recent 2026 Fusion build.
Is the project stable?
The author calls it Beta: the API and behavior may change.
Does it work with Codex and Cursor?
The README says it fits any MCP client. The author tested it with Claude Code.
