What it does

A thin wrapper over the yandex-music-api library with three tools: create a playlist with a title and visibility, search tracks by free-text query, and add found tracks to a playlist. The server only speaks stdio. A separate console command ships alongside it for getting a token via OAuth device flow: it prints a link and code, the user confirms sign-in in a browser, and the token appears in the command's output.

Who it is for. For those who want the simplest scenario: build a playlist from found tracks through an agent, with nothing extra.

Good fit when

  • You only need search plus playlist creation, no likes reading or analytics
  • You want a no-install run via uvx straight from git
  • You want a built-in helper for getting a token via device flow

Not a fit when

  • You need to read likes, genres or the user's playlists: not available here
  • Strict ToS compliance matters: the token method uses the mobile app's client_id, which technically violates the terms

Limitations

Only three tools; no reading of likes, playlists or similar tracks. The package is not published to PyPI, so the uvx command needs the --from flag pointing at the repo. The device-flow token method uses the publicly known client_id and client_secret of the Yandex Music mobile app; the author explicitly warns this violates the terms of use and offers alternative token sources at your own risk.

How to disable. Remove the yandex-music entry from your MCP client configuration.

Do I need to install it ahead of time?

No, uvx --from git+... downloads and runs the server on the fly if uv is installed.

Is the token method allowed?

The author states outright that the device flow uses the mobile app's client_id and technically violates the ToS; use is at your own risk.
