What it does
Dataverse Skills is a plugin that teaches an agent to work with Microsoft Dataverse and linked Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations environments in plain language. The skills pick the right tool on their own: the Dataverse MCP server, the Dataverse CLI, the Python SDK or PAC CLI. An introductory skill sets shared working rules and helps select how to access the environment. dv-query and dv-data handle data. The first reads, filters and aggregates records and can load a result into a pandas DataFrame. The second creates, updates and deletes single records, loads CSV including foreign-key dependencies, upserts by alternate key and generates sample data. dv-metadata designs tables, columns, relationships, forms and views, and dv-solution manages solutions: create, export, import, promote between environments and validate. The remaining three skills work at the environment level. dv-admin manages bulk deletion, retention, archiving, organization settings and the recycle bin. dv-security assigns roles and users and configures business units. erp-xpp runs the X++ lifecycle: metadata, compilation, package deployment, database synchronization and verification.
Who it is for. For Power Platform and Dynamics 365 developers, analysts and administrators who want to run a Dataverse environment through Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex or Cursor.
Good fit when

- You need canvas apps: the skills do not cover them, use pac canvas and the maker portal
- You need to create Power Automate flows: use the maker portal and Management API
- You need Business Central or other Dynamics products
- You need identical local Codex and cloud setup: cloud environments may be limited to a Python-only workflow

You need your own Dataverse environment; the Power Apps Developer Plan is available for evaluation. MCP access requires developer sign-in, tenant administrator consent and environment allowlisting. Direct SDK, Web API and PAC calls use their own authentication paths.
Dataverse enforces permissions on the platform side. Approval prompts in skills are instructions to the agent, not software barriers against destructive operations. Start with a development environment and a least-privilege account. API responses enter the agent context, and their handling depends on your chosen model.
How to disable. In Claude Code disable or remove the dataverse plugin through /plugin. For Gemini CLI run gemini extensions uninstall dataverse. For the MCP server that dv-connect registered, delete the dataverse-<org name> entry from the client configuration.
FAQ
How do I install Dataverse Skills in Claude Code?
Run `/plugin install dataverse@claude-plugins-official`, then ask the agent to connect to your environment. To add skills to another client, use the general skills command in the installation section.
What does the dv-connect skill do?
It checks Python, Git, Node.js and Microsoft tooling, installing dependencies as needed. It then signs in, registers the server and creates local helper files, including environment settings. Verify which environment it selected before the first query.
What does Dataverse Skills telemetry contain?
Additional application labels attached to requests support usage statistics and do not include record contents. That limit applies to plugin telemetry; the agent still receives the data returned by the query you requested.
How do I install the plugin in Codex or Cursor?
In Codex CLI run codex plugin add dataverse@openai-curated; in the Codex app find Microsoft Dataverse under Plugins. In Cursor type /add-plugin dataverse or add Microsoft Dataverse from the marketplace in settings.
Can it run in a cloud environment without an OS credential store?
The documentation provides a limited Python setup for cloud Codex, CI and some Linux environments. The local CLI, PAC and MCP toolchain may be unavailable there, so choose a setup suited to the runtime.
