What it does
Newsjack is a set of open skills and a small CLI that turn an agent into a PR team. The skills fall into four groups. Detect finds fresh stories a company has standing to join, checks who broke the news first and watches for new coverage. Act writes angles and headlines, fact-checks, judges whether a pitch suits a specific journalist and builds a media list. Strategize shapes positioning and a six-month calendar of news hooks. The AI visibility group builds a prompt set to check how AI answers describe your brand. Two skills, `press-clip` and `coverage-reel`, produce PDF clippings and a highlight video of coverage. Any skill can be called by name, for example `/angle-generator`, or by describing the task in words.
Who it is for. Founders of small companies and PR agencies that need news-hook preparation and press work without a dedicated team.

- Work happens only in an ordinary chat with no local agent: monitoring and clippings need a local environment.

Some skills work fully only in a local agent: monitoring setup, coverage tracking, `press-clip` and `coverage-reel` are unavailable in chat apps. `press-clip` drives a real Chrome or Edge browser through Playwright. Skills marked as needing an external connection require a Medialyst account for news search, the calendar and journalist data. Read the one-line installer before running it. It updates itself from the latest GitHub release before each run, which the `NEWSJACK_AUTO_UPDATE=0` variable switches off.
How to disable. Delete the `~/.newsjack` folder and the installed skills from the agent skills directory. Remove an npm install with `npm uninstall -g newsjack` and turn off the plugin in Claude's plugin settings.
FAQ
How do I install Newsjack in Claude Code?
Run `curl -fsSL newsjack.sh | bash` on macOS or Linux. The installer finds agents on the machine and places skills in their directories; the script-free route is `npm i -g newsjack@latest`.
How do I install the plugin in Claude.ai or Cowork?
Open Customize, the Personal plugins section, add a marketplace from the `elvisun/newsjack` repository and install `newsjack@newsjack`. Monitoring in chat runs in limited mode.
What does the newsjack-detector skill do?
It looks for fresh stories you have standing to join and prepares a report, optionally delivered to Slack. The `/newsjack-monitor-setup` skill creates the monitoring profile.
Do I need a Medialyst account?
Not for the basic skills. Live news search, the calendar and journalist data run through Medialyst: sign in with `newsjack login`. A free account can be created with the service.
How do I improve brand visibility in AI answers?
The `/build-ai-visibility-panel` skill builds a prompt set from a site URL and description, and `/ai-visibility-writing` revises copy so answers can reuse it. The skills do not promise rankings.
