Extended access

Why this level

  • First setup downloads about half a gigabyte of packages and models and runs them on your machine
  • Rendering opens pages in a headless browser and calls ffmpeg, writing results into showtime-out folders
  • The recap command reads Claude Code session history and takes only allow-listed facts from it

Install

In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI

npx skillfoxx add plugins/showtime

Detects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • First setup downloads about half a gigabyte of packages and models and runs them on your machine
  • Rendering opens pages in a headless browser and calls ffmpeg, writing results into showtime-out folders
  • The recap command reads Claude Code session history and takes only allow-listed facts from it

What it does

Showtime is a plugin and a set of skills that teach a coding agent to make video: motion graphics, voice-over, music, sound design, captions, footage editing and platform exports. You write a request such as "make a 20-second launch video for this repo, with a voice-over and upbeat music". The agent states its assumptions in one line, shows a first look or a draft, and only then renders the final video. Everything runs on your machine: there are no cloud AI services, no API keys and no uploads, and no GPU is needed. Each request gets its own `showtime-out` folder with `final.mp4`, a poster, text for publishing and working files, and earlier results are never overwritten. The `showtime qa` command reads the finished video back and looks for faults. Among the features are an X-ray mode that draws the inside of a filmed object on the beat of the clip's own sound, and living diagrams that export as an interactive page. `showtime recap --latest` turns a Claude Code session into a 30 to 60 second film, and `showtime repro` makes a video of steps and the failure from a Playwright trace. Ten helper agents (director, scriptwriter, editor and others) and an MCP server are included.

Who it is for. For developers, open-source maintainers, product managers and marketers who need product videos, demos and walkthroughs without a video editor or paid services.

Good fit when

  • You need a short launch video for a repository with a voice-over and music
  • You want to turn a Claude Code session into a narrated film of what the agent did
  • A failing Playwright test should go into an issue as a video of the steps with a Markdown summary
  • Files cannot be uploaded to the cloud, so voice-over and rendering must run locally
  • You want to explain a system with a living diagram people can open in a browser and poke

Not a fit when

  • You need talking avatars or cloud video-generation models: the repository lists them as out of scope
  • Disk or bandwidth is limited: setup downloads up to 0.75 GB and takes up to 1.8 GB on disk
  • The agent runs in a sandbox without network access: the first setup has to be run by hand in a terminal
  • uv and Node.js are missing: Showtime cannot be installed without them

Example request

Make a 20-second launch video for this repo, with a voice-over and upbeat music

Limitations

uv and Node.js 24 or 22 LTS are required, and 20 works too. The first run downloads 0.5 to 0.75 GB and leaves 1.4 to 1.8 GB in `~/.showtime`, usually in 2 to 6 minutes. If Chrome, Edge or Chromium are not found, setup downloads Chrome's headless shell (100 to 120 MB). The author ran real videos in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Devin and OpenCode; other Agent Skills hosts are described as expected to work, with no video made in them yet. A regular Windows 10 or 11 x64 desktop has not been tried yet.

How to disable. In Claude Code remove the plugin through `/plugin` or with `/plugin uninstall showtime@showtime`. If you installed with `npx skills add`, delete the showtime skill folder from the agent's skills folder. Downloaded models live in `~/.showtime`, finished videos in `showtime-out` folders next to your projects.

FAQ

Does Showtime need a GPU or API keys?

No. Without a GPU the browser draws every frame on the CPU, WebGL included, and voice-over, music and captions are made locally. No cloud keys and no uploads are needed.

How do I install Showtime in Cursor or Codex?

Cursor and Devin read the repository's `.claude-plugin` folder, and Codex has its own plugin route. For any Agent Skills host, `npx skills add FavioVazquez/showtime` works, followed by `showtime setup` once.

How much space and time does Showtime setup take?

The download is 0.5 to 0.75 GB, 1.4 to 1.8 GB remains in `~/.showtime`, usually in 2 to 6 minutes. The agent states the size and time before downloading and waits for your consent.

What does showtime recap do?

`showtime recap --latest` takes the latest Claude Code session and builds a narrated 30 to 60 second film about what the agent did. The author says the film is built only from allow-listed facts and the transcript text is not used.

What is the difference between quick and studio mode?

In quick mode, the default, the agent states its assumptions and starts. In studio mode (say "show me options first") it first shows a concept, a look, a music bed and a storyboard on a local board.

README in short

The README opens with a film made by Showtime itself and a three-step start: install uv and Node.js, add the plugin to your agent, ask for a video. It then lists what is new in the 0.4.x releases, describes X-ray mode, tabulates agents with the versions that passed testing and gives requirements with the tested systems.
