What it does
best-skills is a collection of 16 skills in the `skills/` folder, each with its own SKILL.md. The agent picks a skill up by itself when the request matches keywords in its description field, so nothing needs to be invoked by hand. The author sets it against his own best-prompts: those prompts are pasted into a chat window, while here the agent selects the instruction automatically. The set falls into four groups. For writing: paper-write (thesis outline review, imitating a sample's structure, text polishing, references), patent-write, wechat-article-writer with covers for WeChat articles, and md-report-summary. For diagrams: drawio-diagram (neural network architecture, UML, school-subject figures for math, physics, chemistry and more), excalidraw-diagram in a hand-drawn style, and pptgen-drawio, which builds thesis-defense decks in several styles. For files: office-file-process reads and creates Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and pdf extracts text and tables, merges, splits and protects documents and runs OCR on scans. For code: project-docs writes nine onboarding documents about a project into `docs/` with path:line references, while codegen-doc writes work sections, a project overview and a resume project description from the code. Two more skills build other skills: skill-create makes a new skill from a task description, and skill-prompt-convert turns a skill into a plain prompt and back.
Who it is for. Students, researchers and developers who write theses, documentation and diagrams with Cursor, Claude Code or Codex and read Chinese.
Good fit when
- A thesis is coming up: paper-write reviews the outline, rewrites a chapter after a sample and helps with references
- A newcomer needs onboarding to a project: project-docs writes nine documents into `docs/` and ties the code to files and lines
- A model architecture or request flow has to go on a diagram: drawio-diagram outputs a file editable in draw.io
- A defense deck is due: pptgen-drawio builds slides from a draw.io source in several styles
- You need tables or text from a PDF and a scan is unreadable: the pdf skill runs OCR on it
Not a fit when
- You want one narrow skill with an install command: folders are copied by hand here, and the set is broader than the task
- You need prompts and workflows in Russian: skill descriptions and examples are written in Chinese
- The environment forbids running local programs: pdf and office-file-process rely on pandoc, Python and Node libraries

- There is no install command: copy the folders from `skills/` into the agent's skills directory, for example `.claude/skills/` or `.cursor/skills/`. Paths in the README are for Windows.
- Descriptions, triggers and example requests are in Chinese, so you will have to translate hints for a Russian-speaking agent.
- office-file-process falls back to Windows Office COM automation when pandoc and markitdown are missing, and creates files through docx-js, pptxgenjs and openpyxl.
- The last commit is dated 13 September 2026.
How to disable. Delete the folders you copied from `skills/` out of the agent's skills directory. The agent stops picking the skills up; some clients need a restart.
FAQ
How do I install best-skills in Claude Code?
Copy the folders you want from `skills/` into the project's `.claude/skills/` or into `~/.claude/skills/`. The repository has no automatic installer, but you can take one skill out of sixteen and leave the rest.
Do I have to invoke the skills with a command?
No. The agent decides whether a skill fits from keywords in its description, so stating the task is enough, for example "merge these PDFs" or "write onboarding docs for this project".
What does project-docs from this set do?
It writes nine documents into `docs/`: architecture, design ideas, code walkthrough, runtime model, build, integration, debugging and conventions. If the folder is already filled, the skill asks whether to overwrite, skip or back up to `docs.bak/`.
How is best-skills different from a standalone draw.io skill?
Here drawio-diagram is one of sixteen folders, next to skills for PDF, Office, theses and documentation. If you only need draw.io with export, a separate skill is simpler.
Which agents work with best-skills?
