Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
The repository holds two skills. `effekseer-vfx` takes an effect from brief and textures through the official EffekseerCore compiler, a static linter and a Godot filmstrip capture. `vfx-review` scores the strip against a fixed rubric without seeing the recipe, so the author never grades its own work. An effect can be built procedurally from layer primitives, from a video flipbook painted by an image-to-video model, or by combining both. For Unity 6 URP there is a runtime install and sheet export.
Who it is for. Game developers on Godot 4 and Unity 6 URP who want projectiles, hits, shields and explosions without hand-building them in the Effekseer editor.
Good fit when
- A prototype needs an effect set: fire, ice, poison and dark as projectile plus impact pairs.
- An effect looks off and the agent must fix one detail at a time against the filmstrip.
- A huge explosion or a giant monster's beam is built through `scale='kaiju'`.
- A character animation is tied to a sequence of effects by beats.
- An independent review of the effect by a separate reviewer agent is needed.
Not a fit when
- The game is neither on Godot nor Unity; the skill verifies effects only in those two engines.
- You want a ready effect library without running Python and a build.
- Effects are hand-authored in the Effekseer editor with no agent involved.
Example request
Make an ice spikes effect for Godot based on the VFX_Ice_Spikes example, show the filmstrip and hand it to the independent review.Limitations
Verified on Effekseer 1.80, Godot 4 and Unity 6 URP; the README promises no other versions. The `setup.sh` script downloads a toolchain into `~/.cache/effekseer-vfx`, and the agent should ask before doing so. The video flipbook route needs access to an image-to-video model; its cost and terms stay with you. The Unity side is documented less thoroughly than Godot. The skill assumes an author willing to work with Python recipes and effect structure.
How to disable. Remove the `effekseer-vfx` and `vfx-review` folders from the skills directory or run `/plugin uninstall effekseer-vfx`. Delete the `~/.cache/effekseer-vfx` toolchain folder by hand.
FAQ
How do the two skills differ?
`effekseer-vfx` authors the effect, while `vfx-review` scores the finished filmstrip against a fixed rubric without seeing the recipe.
What does `vfx doctor` show?
The machine state and next steps. If tools are missing, the hint names the exact `setup.sh` or `setup.ps1` command.
How do I install without plugins?
Clone the repository and copy `skills/effekseer-vfx` and `skills/vfx-review` into a skills folder such as `~/.claude/skills/` or `~/.codex/skills/`.
What ways to build an effect exist?
Procedural from primitives, a video flipbook from an image-to-video model, and a combined route where the sheet is the body layer and primitives add flashes and sparks.
Is the Effekseer editor required?
No. The effect is built by the official EffekseerCore compiler from a recipe, and `vfx doctor` checks whether the machine is ready.
