How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • Runs local Python scripts and reads and writes files in `~/.claude/instagram/`
  • Publishes nothing and does not connect to Instagram, but `voice.md` ends up holding details about you and your account

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

The set of thirteen skills runs an Instagram account: each covers one job and starts with a command such as `/ig-reel` or `/ig-caption`. `/ig-reel` turns an idea into a Reels script: it proposes three hooks from 26 formulas, scores them, then writes the spoken text, on-screen text and a timed beat sheet. `/ig-caption` writes a caption and shows the 125 characters the feed displays before the tap. `/ig-profile` scores a profile against a 12-part rubric out of 100, and `/ig-plan` builds the week. The rest cover carousels, stories with a DM funnel, comments on other people's posts, replies under your own, direct messages, turning one video into a week of material and a post-mortem of what already went out. `/ig-viral` ranks a niche's reels by how far each beat its own account's median and names the formula. Five Python scripts run locally with no dependencies and no network: `hookscore.py`, `beats.py`, `caption.py`, `humanize.py` and `detect.py`. `/ig-human` strips invisible characters and stock phrasing from a draft, then scores the text against five checks. Every skill reads a `voice.md` file that describes your voice. You do the posting; the skills only write.

Who it is for. For creators, social media managers and account owners who run Instagram through Claude Code and want ready scripts, captions and a posting plan in their own voice.

Good fit when

  • You have a Reel idea but no opening line: `/ig-reel` proposes three hooks and scores each before you film
  • A finished script has to fit a target length: `beats.py` lays the lines out by the second and flags the beat where viewers leave
  • A caption gets cut at the first 125 characters and `/ig-caption` shows what a person sees in the feed
  • A profile has to be scored and rewritten: `/ig-profile` gives a score out of 100 and a fix-first order
  • One video, podcast or newsletter has to become a week of reels and carousels with `/ig-repurpose`

Not a fit when

  • You need posts published and replies sent from the account automatically: the skills only write and a person posts
  • You need account analytics from the Instagram API: the skills connect to nothing and work on the text you give them
  • You need other platforms: the whole set is about Instagram
  • Python 3 is missing: the five scripts, including `hookscore.py` and `caption.py`, will not run without it

Example request

Make a reel about losing a client over a missing contract clause: three scored hooks, the script and a 30-second beat sheet

Limitations

  • The skills write text and compute scores, but publish nothing and connect to nothing in Instagram. They need no account access.
  • Script quality depends on the `voice.md` file: fill it in at the start, otherwise the skill asks for three of your reels and infers the voice from them.
  • Without Claude Code part of it works: any `SKILL.md` can be pasted at the top of a chat as a mode, but the five scripts behind `/ig-reel` and `/ig-human` do not run in a chat.
  • The scripts judge a hook and a caption by fixed rules; these are heuristics, not a reach forecast.
  • Instagram is blocked in Russia. The skills run locally, but opening the account and the platform is up to you.
  • The hashtag cap in `caption.py` is five per post, the platform rule at the time the set was released.

How to disable. Delete the `ig-*` folders from `~/.claude/skills/` or the project's `.claude/skills/`. If you installed it as a plugin, run `/plugin uninstall instagram-agent`. The `~/.claude/instagram/voice.md` file sits separately and can stay or go.

FAQ

How do I install Instagram agent skill in Claude Code?

Run `/plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/instagram-agent-skill`, then `/plugin install instagram-agent`. You can also copy the folders by hand: `git clone` the repository and `cp -r instagram-agent-skill/skills/ig-* ~/.claude/skills/`.

Does it need an API key or access to my Instagram account?

No. The set is free under the MIT license with no signup and no keys. The skills work on the text you give them and publish nothing.

What is voice.md and why fill it in?

It is a profile of your voice: how you talk on camera, what you never say, who you write for. The file lives at `~/.claude/instagram/voice.md` and every skill reads it. A template ships in `templates/voice.md`. Without it the skill asks for three of your reels and writes the file itself.

How do I score a reel hook before filming?

Put the options in `hooks.txt` and run `python3 hookscore.py hooks.txt`: the script ranks them and names the weakest part and any dealbreaker, such as a greeting up front. `--hook` scores a single line, and `beats.py` with `--target 30` checks the timing.

What does the ig-human skill do?

It cleans a draft of invisible characters, stock phrasing and stray long dashes with `humanize.py`, shows every change with `--report`, and `detect.py` scores the text against five checks and can compare two versions.

README in short

The README presents a set of thirteen skills for running Instagram and three ways to install: a phrase for Claude, copying folders and a plugin. A command table describes each skill, followed by a section on the five local scripts with sample output: hook scoring, script timing, caption linting and text cleanup. The file ends with the `voice.md` template that every skill reads.

name: ig-reel
description: >-
  Write an Instagram Reel from a raw idea - hook options off 26 formulas, the
  spoken script, the on-screen text, and a timed beat sheet - in the user's own
  voice and scored before they shoot it. Use whenever the user wants a Reel, a
  short-form video script, a hook, a voiceover, "make a reel about X", "what
  should I say in this video", or is about to record and does not have the
  first line yet.
---

# ig-reel

Turns one raw idea into a Reel that somebody finishes.

Two tools live in this folder and they both actually run. Use them. Do not
eyeball the hook and do not guess at the length.

```bash
python3 hookscore.py hooks.txt              # rank your hook options
python3 hookscore.py --hook "one line"      # score a single one
python3 beats.py script.txt --target 30     # timed beat sheet before you shoot
```

## Before you write

1. Read `~/.claude/instagram/voice.md` if it exists. That is the user's voice
   profile: how they talk on camera, what they never say, who they are talking
   to. If it does not exist, ask for **three of their own reels**, transcribe or
   read them, infer the voice, and write the file. A script in the wrong voice
   is unusable, because they have to say it out loud.
2. Read `hooks.json` in this folder. 26 formulas, each with a template, a filled
   example, the on-screen version, what it is for, and how it gets ruined.
   Four of them are in there because they kept turning up in real hooks, not
   because they completed a pattern.
3. If the idea is thin, do not pad it. Ask one batched question: what happened,
   to whom, and what did it cost or return. A Reel needs one specific true
   thing. Get it before writing.
4. If `~/.claude/instagram/swipe.md` exists, read it. `/ig-viral` writes that
   file, and it is the user's own evidence about which formulas are working in
   their niche right now. It beats the defaults in this file.
