What it does
The skill has two modes. In editing mode it finds bureaucratese, empty verbs, genitive chains, needless foreign words, mangled idioms and tautologies in Russian text and proposes a concrete fix for each. In translation review mode it also looks for literalisms, calques, redundant possessive pronouns, and Russian or Soviet realia in foreign settings. The mode comes from the request or from textual signs. References are split into files, Gal's principles, a bureaucratese checklist, a replacement dictionary and translation faults, loaded as needed.
Who it is for. For writers, editors, translators and SMM specialists who write and edit in Russian.
Good fit when

Works only with Russian text and rests on one book, so it does not replace proofreading or style guide checks. It deliberately preserves the author's voice, so some bureaucratic phrasing in parody or character speech may stay.
How to disable. Remove the skill in Claude Desktop settings or delete ~/.claude/skills/nora-gal/.

How does it differ from a Milchin style check?
This skill is about living language and translation. Formatting rules are handled by the author's separate russian-editorial-review skill.
Is the replacement dictionary applied automatically?
No, the fix depends on meaning, tone, speaker and era, so one word may be edited differently in different places.

Её книга «Слово живое и мёртвое» — не сборник запретов, а способ слышать текст. Главная мысль: слово должно быть живым — конкретным, глагольным, человечным, в ладу с характером говорящего и духом подлинника. Мёртвое слово — канцелярит, калька, штамп — не просто некрасиво: оно стирает мысль, чувство и образ. ## Два режима **Режим 1 — редактура русского текста.** Пользователь даёт свой текст (статью, прозу, письмо, доклад). Ищи канцелярит и мёртвые слова, предлагай живую правку. **Режим 2 — проверка перевода.** Пользователь даёт перевод на русский (с оригиналом или без). Сверх канцелярита ищи переводческие болезни: буквализм, кальки, вывихнутые идиомы, русизмы в чужом быте, ошибки интонации. Если оригинала нет — болезни перевода всё равно видны по симптомам («звучит как перевод»); отмечай места, где стоит свериться с подлинником.
