What it does
OpenDirectory is a library of agent skills for founders who hate marketing. Each skill is a ready set of instructions and context you install into your agent, which then gains knowledge for a task such as a launch, growth work or technical marketing. Skills are grouped by category: visual and media, content and others. They include blog cover images with a quality check, Chart.js charts, HTML slide decks and e-books with PDF export, product launch videos, an HTML newsletter, cold email verification, X hiring-signal search through Apify and a pricing page audit against 12 pricing psychology principles. The show-hn-writer skill drafts a Show HN post from data on 250 top HN posts. You install the library through an interactive terminal browser or with an install command for one skill plus an agent flag. Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex, Gemini CLI, Anti-Gravity, OpenClaw, Hermes and Manus AI are supported. Claude Code also has a plugin marketplace.
Who it is for. For founders and small teams who want to hand an agent ready instructions for launch, promotion and content.
Good fit when
- You need a Show HN post built from the patterns of real top posts
- You want a 1200×630 blog cover that retries if the quality check fails
- You want your SaaS pricing page audited against 12 pricing psychology principles with a ranked fix list
- You need a slide deck, e-book or case study in HTML and PDF in your brand style
- You want to verify a cold email list or find GTM hiring signals on X
Not a fit when
- You need Russian-market tools: the examples target international venues such as Show HN and Product Hunt
- The skill must work without external keys: some skills call Gemini, Apify and other services
- You need a hard compatibility guarantee: a skill's compatibility field can narrow the list of supported agents
Example request
Draft a Show HN post for my open-source CLI using the patterns of top postsLimitations
Node.js is required because the CLI runs through npx. Some skills depend on outside services: the blog cover skill uses Gemini 3.1 Flash Image Preview, X search goes through Apify, and cook-the-blog uploads assets to cloud storage and pushes the final code to a GitHub repository you name.
The compatibility field in SKILL.md lists the agents a skill was tested on. When the field is absent the skill is declared for all supported agents. Check the results yourself: several versions in the table are marked 0.0.1.
How to disable. Delete the skill's folder from the agent's skills directory, for example `.claude/skills/`, and remove the Claude Code plugin through `/plugin`. A `--global` install puts skills in `~/.claude/skills/`.
FAQ
How do I install an OpenDirectory skill in Claude Code?
Run `npx "@opendirectory.dev/skills" install <skill-name> --target claude`. `npx skills add Varnan-Tech/opendirectory` installs all of them, and `--skill <name>` narrows it to one. A marketplace exists too: `/plugin marketplace add Varnan-Tech/opendirectory`.
Which agents are supported and how do I choose?
The `--target` flag takes claude, opencode, codex, gemini, anti-gravity, openclaw and hermes. For Manus AI each skill page has an import button that uses the GitHub link, and for Claude Desktop you upload the skill as a ZIP in Skills.
What does show-hn-writer do?
It drafts a Show HN post from patterns in 250 top posts collected on 18 April 2026. The skill's rules come from observed data, not from general advice.
How can I see what skills exist before installing?
`npx "@opendirectory.dev/skills" list` prints every skill, and running it with no arguments opens a full-screen browser with categories and search. In the tables each entry shows a version and a description.
What does the compatibility field in a skill mean?
It is an optional list of the agents the skill was tested on: claude, codex, opencode, gemini, anti-gravity, openclaw, hermes. When the field is absent the skill is declared for all. Aliases, unknown targets and values outside the list are rejected by validation.

README in short
The README introduces OpenDirectory as a skill library for founders with 64 skills and badges for eight agents. It then gives five install paths: the npx CLI, skills.sh, Claude Desktop through a ZIP, the Claude Code marketplace and a Manus AI import. Most of the page is tables of every skill by category with a description and version, and a popular-skills picklist ranked by output quality sits near the top. The compatibility field in SKILL.md is covered too.
