How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • The viewer reads local tasks and project paths; its board can add notes and delete tasks from Claude Code’s list.

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

Claude Task Viewer displays Claude Code tasks in a local web interface. It discovers sessions in the user directory and builds a board of statuses and dependencies. When files change, the board updates without a page reload. Each session has a timeline with bars from task creation to the last update. Search covers names, descriptions and project paths. Statuses reflect Claude Code’s work; the user can add notes and delete tasks from its list.

Who it is for. For developers who want one board for several Claude Code sessions and their blocked tasks.

Good fit when

  • Inspect current work across several sessions.
  • Find the dependency preventing a task from starting.
  • Review one session on a timeline.
  • Receive a browser notification and sound when a task completes.

Not a fit when

  • You need a board for manually changing task status.
  • You need another agent’s tasks stored in a format incompatible with Claude Code.
  • Working history must not be exposed to a local web application.

Example request

Open the local Claude Code task board and show dependency-blocked tasks without deleting records.

Limitations

Node.js 18 or later and local Claude Code task files are required; without those files, the board has nothing to display. Deleting a task through the board removes it from Claude Code’s list, although the viewer checks dependencies first. The timeline uses task creation and last-update timestamps, so it does not measure exact active model time. The project has not been updated recently: its last commit was in February 2026. Check compatibility with the current task format using your own session.

How to disable. Stop the `claude-task-viewer` process and close the tab. Tasks deleted through the board are not automatically restored.

FAQ

How do I open the board?

Run `npx claude-task-viewer`, then open `http://localhost:3456`.

How do I select another Claude directory?

Use `npx claude-task-viewer --dir=~/.claude-work` with your path for a separate configuration.

When is a session archived?

When it has no in-progress tasks and has not changed for more than seven days. The UI collapses it, but search can still find it.

Can I choose another port?

Yes. `PORT=8080 npx claude-task-viewer` changes the local server port.

Is there a task-list API?

Yes. GET endpoints return sessions and tasks, and an event stream reports updates. Other API methods delete tasks and add notes.

Why are notifications missing?

The browser must allow desktop notifications. Sound also depends on browser settings. Enable notifications with the bell button on the board.
