What it does
The repository of the Korean broker Korea Investment & Securities holds sample code for the KIS Open API and two MCP servers. KIS Trading MCP connects an AI client to the trading API: quotes and the order book, account balance and history, orders with modify and cancel. It covers Korean and overseas markets, from stocks to derivatives. KIS Code Assistant MCP does a different job: it searches the API documentation and code samples for the right method from a natural language query so the agent can write your integration. The Trading MCP starts with `npx -y @koreainvestment/kis-trading-mcp` over stdio, and there is also a Docker run with SSE and an install from source. App keys and account numbers are set through environment variables. The other folders complement the MCP: examples_llm with per-method examples, strategy_builder and a Lean-based backtester.
Who it is for. For developers and private investors with a Korea Investment & Securities account who want to bring quotes and trades into Claude Desktop or Cursor.
Good fit when
- You want to ask an assistant for the current price, order book and chart of a Korean or overseas security through the broker API
- You want to review balance, trade history and profit of an account without opening the broker app
- You are writing a Python trading bot and need the right KIS Open API method: connect Code Assistant MCP to search the samples
- You want to test a scenario on a paper account first: the server separates real and paper environments
Not a fit when
- You have no Korea Investment & Securities account and no KIS Developers keys: calls do not work without them
- You need certainty that the agent will not place an order: the full tool set includes trading orders
- You need a Russian broker: the server connects to the Korean one only
- You need financial advice: the server provides data and operations without recommendations
Example request
Through kis-trading show the current price and order book for Samsung Electronics, then the balance of my paper account. Do not place any ordersMCP

Limitations
- Calls need Node.js 18 or newer, Python 3.11 or newer, uv and app keys from the KIS Developers center. Docker mode needs Docker 20.10 or newer.
- The MCP documentation is written in Korean. Samples are for reference and may change without notice, and the user bears responsibility for running them.
- The server downloads method code from GitHub at run time and executes it in a temporary environment.
- The repository has no license at the root; the MCP folder carries its own LICENSE file.
- An account with this broker is not available to everyone, so check the opening conditions before installing.
How to disable. Remove the kis-trading entry from the MCP client settings and restart the client. App keys can be revoked in the KIS Developers center, and the environment variables should be deleted from the client configuration.
FAQ
How do I connect KIS Trading MCP to Claude Desktop?
In the claude_desktop_config.json file add a kis-trading server with the command npx and the arguments -y @koreainvestment/kis-trading-mcp, and put KIS_APP_KEY and KIS_APP_SECRET into the env block. After restarting Claude Desktop the server shows in the tools list. For Cursor, add the same entry under MCP Servers in settings.
How do KIS Trading MCP and KIS Code Assistant MCP differ?
Trading MCP calls the trading API: quotes, balances, orders. Code Assistant MCP trades nothing; it searches the documentation and samples for the right method and shows example code for your program.
Can I try it on a paper account first?
Yes. The paper environment uses separate keys KIS_PAPER_APP_KEY and KIS_PAPER_APP_SECRET and account numbers KIS_PAPER_STOCK and KIS_PAPER_FUTURE.
Which markets and instruments does KIS MCP cover?
Domestic and overseas stocks, domestic and overseas futures and options, domestic bonds, ETFs and ETNs, and ELWs. Besides quotes and orders, the server returns rankings and trading flow data.
How do I run the server in Docker?
Clone the repository, build the image from the Dockerfile in the Kis Trading MCP folder and pass the keys through environment variables. In the container the server uses SSE.
