What it does
The package exposes Yahoo Finance data three ways: as a library for server-side JavaScript and TypeScript, as a CLI and as an MCP server. The MCP server offers a read-only toolset: quote, search, quoteSummary, chart, historical, options, screener, trendingSymbols, recommendationsBySymbol, insights and fundamentalsTimeSeries. Through them an agent gets quotes, price history with dividends and splits, a company profile and summary, option chains and screener picks. Transports include stdio and streamable HTTP. Deprecated modules are intentionally left out of the MCP surface.
Who it is for. For analysts and developers who need Yahoo Finance market data in an agent or in server-side code.

It is an unofficial client; Yahoo provides no public API and does not guarantee availability or data consistency, and the authors disclaim liability for possible losses. Data can change or disappear, for example history for delisted securities is removed. It runs in server-side environments and cannot be called directly from the browser. The data is informational and not investment advice.
How to disable. Remove the yahoo-finance2 entry from the MCP client config or remove the skill. A globally installed package is removed with npm.

No. The project is unofficial, Yahoo publishes no open API and does not guarantee data availability, so use it at your own risk.
Can it trade?
No. The package returns read-only data and has no trading or account access.
