What it does
WPS Skills connects an agent to a running WPS Office through a Node.js MCP server. The server exposes 231 specialised tools: 82 for Excel (formulas, charts, pivot tables), 28 for Word (formatting, headers and footers, comments, template filling), 112 for presentations (slides, shapes, animations, charts) and 9 general ones (save, connection check, format conversion), plus 12 built-in tools. On macOS commands travel through the wps-claude-assistant add-in over HTTP, on Windows through the PowerShell script wps-com.ps1 and the COM interface, and Linux has its own install script. Four skills in the skills folder (wps-excel, wps-word, wps-ppt, wps-office) explain how to use the tools. The target document has to be open in WPS, otherwise a tool returns null.
Who it is for. People who keep reports and presentations in WPS Office and want an agent to edit their spreadsheets, texts and slides.
Good fit when
- Data from several sheets has to be merged into one table with a pivot and a chart
- A twenty-slide deck is being brought to one consistent style
- Values are filled into a Word template and headers and footers are added
- A finished file is saved or converted to another format straight from the conversation with the agent
Not a fit when
- WPS Office is not installed on the computer: every tool works through the installed application
- You work in Microsoft Office or LibreOffice: the add-in is written for WPS only
- You want an unattended install: the WPS add-in has to be installed by a person, followed by a restart of the program

Limitations
A person has to install the WPS add-in, an agent cannot do it, and WPS must be restarted afterwards. Node.js 18 or newer is required, the build runs with `npm install` and `npm run build`, and the configuration needs an absolute path to `dist/index.js`. The documentation is in Chinese. The README gives the tool count inconsistently (231, 239 and 243), so rely on the per-application breakdown. The tools drive the local program and the files open in it and do not touch WPS cloud documents.
How to disable. Remove the wps-office entry from `~/.claude/settings.json` or `.cursor/mcp.json` and the wps-* symlinks from `~/.claude/skills`. Uninstall the add-in through WPS itself.
FAQ
How do I connect WPS Skills to Claude Code?
Build the server in wps-office-mcp and add an mcpServers block named wps-office to `~/.claude/settings.json`, with the command node and the path to `dist/index.js`. Then link the four skills folders into `~/.claude/skills`.
Does the server work with Cursor and Codex?
Yes, it is a standard stdio server. For Cursor the configuration goes in `.cursor/mcp.json`, and for Codex CLI in `~/.codex/config.toml` or via `codex mcp add`.
What if a tool returns null?
Open a document of the right type in WPS: Excel tools do nothing without a spreadsheet and Word tools without a text document. The arguments error goes away after rerunning the install script and restarting WPS.
How do I check that the server starts?
Run `node wps-office-mcp/dist/index.js &` and look for the line MCP Server started successfully in the log. Stop the process afterwards with `kill %1`.
Where are the Linux install steps?
INSTALL.md at the repository root has a separate Linux guide, and the add-in is installed by the `scripts/install.sh` script.
