What it does
Kraken MCP exposes the exchange CLI to an agent through stdio. Service groups are chosen at startup: begin with quotes and paper trading, then add account access separately. Calls use the same command engine as the terminal client. Paper trading uses live prices without a Kraken account. Research workflows can record market data and replay it into paper sessions. The project installation includes the MCP server, main CLI and interactive shell.
Who it is for. For developers who want to test an agent with quotes and paper trades before granting access to a live account.

Limitations
If the client does not support MCP elicitation, the server cannot display a consent dialog: keep the client’s own tool-approval prompts enabled. Credentials can come from environment variables or a stored key file, so check which source is active before connecting. Release builds support macOS and Linux; Windows users are directed to WSL. Exchange product access depends on the account and the user’s jurisdiction: a tool appearing in MCP does not mean the exchange will allow the operation.
How to disable. Remove Kraken from the agent’s MCP settings and revoke any unneeded exchange key. Stopping the server does not cancel orders already accepted by the exchange.
FAQ
How many MCP tools are available?
Up to 152 when all services are enabled. The default exposes only tools from its selected groups.
How long does a browser-login key last?
The default and maximum are 90 days. The user can choose a shorter duration.
Can a person request a read-only key?
Yes. They can choose `kraken auth login --read-only --valid-for 30d`. The resulting key cannot trade.
How do I verify a release?
Use minisign signatures. Release archives and the installer have signature files, with the public key published in the instructions.
Why can a client fail to find the server after installation?
Its environment may not have the new executable path. Restart the client or configure the binary’s full path.
Does the main CLI ask before placing an order?
No. The main CLI submits orders without a confirmation dialog. Check the parameters before executing a command.
